Uhm, there's no actual "optimal route". Also, I don't want to crush your dreams, but it takes thousands of hours to get 4:55. I suggest you watch Kosmic's tutorial on how to get sub 5 1st and even watch some actual runs before even trying to learn some of the glitches

Thanks Wolf! That actually helped quite alot. I'm pretty sure by the time i even get remotely close to 5:00 the record would be broken haha. Cheers!

I started as optimistic as you... please keep that optimism with you because you'll need it. I hope we can provide enough support in your quest for 4:55.

First thing is your going to want to use a original NES and cart or an emulator (FCEUX, BizHawk, Nestopia are all acceptable emulators). This is because the NES runs at a little bit higher than 60fps (60.09 approx.)

  1. Your first goal should be to get sub-5, do that, it's a good accomplishment but that's only the beginning for 4:55

  2. You need to learn all the tricks: Flagpole glitch, 1-2 pipe clip, 420 blazit clip, 8-2 bbg (the one that saves the extra framerule), 8-3, and the other levels

  3. Practice for hours. This is how your gonna get good at the game. It's how everybody does. The more you practice, the better you get. Use the practice rom if you wish, as it will help you out with the tricks.

  4. Do attempts everyday, for hours. Do it on your free time, make sure you do not pass up priorities such as work or school.

It will take lots of practice and attempts to get to 4:55, but if you are sure you can do it, you can. Don't be too excited, but you should stay motivated. If you are losing your motivation, you can take a break, and return to the grind when you wish.
