Is 3DSVC Release Viable/Allowed?

I ask because currently that is what I have to use to speedrun the game on the go.

Its okay for glitchless, (and possibly) RBA (but not sure). Glitchless for though. The 3ds emulator calculates money differently than console, so it would OP to use the 3ds the vc. Good for practice though.

It works perfectly for NSC too, I did a few runs with it. And yeah, it's 100% fine for glitchless (and NMG) and works exactly the same way as emulator or original console.

Sorry my B it does work for all categories, but glitchless is the only one allowed for posting times on speed runs.com.

I just want to clarify that for R/B/Y the category catch em all or 151 does NOT work on 3ds vc because of incorrect calculation of your money. Also since the 3ds vc doesn't display the gameboy title screen, I'd be certain that the 3ds vc would considered emulation.

Wanted to bump this thread rather than making a new one.

I'm essentially brand new to speed running and would like to get into R/B/Y. Has there been changes in the rulings for the 3ds ports of the games? If they are still allowed, is it slower in anyway than running it on original consoles (what is the standard console btw, GBC or GBA, iirc GBA can play GBC games)? Lastly, is there any difference between picking between Red or Blue version?

Thanks!

The "Standard" console most people are using is the GameBoyPlayer for the GameCube.

The difference/problem with VC is that the found manips for console/emu will not work on it. NintenTalks is looking into VC manips, but its a manual endeavor which will most likely not yield results as good as the botting for console/emu had.

Picking Eed or Blue ¤¤at the moment¤¤ mostly depends on which category you run. Glitchless is usually run on Red while glitched categories are ¤mostly¤ run on Blue. At this point, I don't think it's very likely to change at least for Glitchless because the current manips are near perfect.

Before manip was found, Red was chosen for Glitchless because the Nidoran male has a way higher encounter rate (25% i believe as opposed to 5% on blue). So it was easier to find the poke you were actually going to run.

Hello @Vergil, Yes as Vivec stated, manips are very different than console/emu. Currently I have pidgey manip, and currently working on a Nido manip for Red Glitchless, and a "better" Ditto manip for NSC. Another runner would be much appreciated. Which category are interested in currently?

Hey! I would love to help you lab this game as I'm currently working a job with a lot of down time, so I can play more than I even want too haha. At the moment I want to learn NSC just because I'm new to speedrunning, I want to learn something quick (under 20mins) so I can get used to what it feels like to really grind a game. However, I am also interested in getting into Red Glitchless eventually. I'm not exactly sure how to find new manips and what not, but if you are willing to teach me i'd love to help out afterwards haha.

@Vergil have you checked the newest NSC guide? here's the newest guide, if you haven't seen it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LeWs_N381jNpOYV3cQAIDdSBci0aACWB-ihEQS7dg74/edit?usp=sharing

Yes! I'm actually following that guide when I play at home on bgb; however I was hoping to get something going with a 3ds run, as I'm always on my 3ds at work ahah.

Well unfortunately I'm still undergoing with the Ditto manip. But I do have another, but it's more likely to fail. Not beginner friendly at all, no offense. Did you want the risky ditto manip?

Haha if it's not beginner friendly I'm okay to wait it out. I don't want to get frustrated and end up giving up or haha. I'l just work on learning the original NSC from the guide you linked to get used to speedrunning in general for now.

Okay my previous post is dead because the ditto manip that I thought was good was actually really bad, and super inconsistent. So Here's videos of the old route, just so you can get familiiar:

Okay @Vergil, I have a consistent Ditto manip now. But I have to ask you, is this the only social media platform you have? It might be a little difficult to tell here. Do you have a discord account? Here's the link to PSR discord channel: http://forums.pokemonspeedruns.com/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=492. You need to fill out an application, but if you don't a discord account, then it's basically like Skype, but for gamers. If you're interested in speedrunning, another runner would great :)

@Nintentalks thanks for showing off my video ;)

Yeah I'm running glitchless on Red on 3DS VC. I was trying to Nido manip and I was wondering why it wasn't working. Is there any way atm to get a guranteed speedrun worthy Nidoran?

England

RNG is different between different types of console (VC, GBA, GBC etc.) You'll want to either find a nido manip for VC (I think someone has a decent one, but I haven't seen it myself), or run on emu (Gambatte-Speedrun matches GBA RNG, which is what the manips you'll see in guides use. I guess if you happen to have a GBA or GBP you could also use that :P
