What categories would you like to see on the jstris leaderboards?

I had some ideas like 40L 0 finesse and stuff... so tell me what do you guys think about this and tell me if you have any other ideas!

Sprint, cheese races, survival, big block, pentomino whatever. Not saying every category should have a no hold variant, but at least 2 or 3 of the most popular ones.

Poland

Other than that? I think we have quite a nice variation, maybe some of the more popular/complex maps (possibly as IL's)? But nothing that's necessary I would say.

I added 20L and 40L 0 finesse, i dont think no hold is really that interesting, it doesnt require much skill to achieve when 0 finesse does require training. I will eventually add it if it is frequently requested

Poland

Categories shouldn't be added based on how difficult it is to submit a run to them, but rather how different of an experience it isto run them. If someone is good enough running 40L and 0 finesse 40L is identical, whilst the better someone is the more different 40L and No Hold 40L is, since the more experienced players use holding much more and restricting it is a major gamechanger. I think that 0 finesse categories do not make much sense and shouldn't be implemented, whilst No Hold is different enough to warrant at least 1 category.

I personally think terter is right with the no hold on that point, I'll look into it

Poland

Thanks for adding those cats. I don't think that 20/40L are very good since they're so short, but 100L no hold is very cool. Could you also add 100L cheese race no hold and maybe remove the 20/40L? I think 100L and 100L cheese race are the only cats that really deserve such a category.

Poland

It's very dissapointing to see 20LNH and 40LNH having runs since now it seems they are here to stay on the board, regardless of them having no reason to exist in the first place. 100LNH is fine since it's a longer category so NH has more of an impact, but 20 and 40 line variants do not hold the same water, so I never saw any point in adding them as well. Regardless, could you please add 100L Cheese Race No Hold as well? It's the only cat besides standard 100L that deserves a No Hold variant. And due to how important holding is in cheese races, it would really be a whole new experience to speedrun. Quite difficult too.

Am I the only one who thinks the Big Block categories should get no holds? I would find that rather interesting to run in my opinion

Poland

Ooh, you might be onto something there. Though that would be very difficult. Maybe 100L Big Block No Hold might be cool? 1000L would be too much though, or would it? Either way, I second that idea.

Instead of making multiple categories, i was thinking about making different sub categories for the basic ones. So that there's not too much categories.

Poland

That might actually be a good idea, but would you be willing to make huge changes like that? As far as I know there is no easy way to move all of the sprint cats in to just one with 4 subcategories. And you would have to make a whole excel sheet of all the runs and then move them to the right subcategory in the "sprint" category one by one.

Île-de-France, France

Not a problem. I can just make an empty copy of the essential categories, move them to the sub categories and delete the old ones

Île-de-France, France

But i can do that. Itll just require maybe a day of maintenance on the leaderboards.

Cool! Thanks Sausty!

Poland

No way, so you'll actually go through with this?

British Columbia, Canada

If he's willing to I guess. Anything for the community right?

Île-de-France, France

Just know that i wont be able to verify runs for a day. I also wont be able to answer questions or anything.

Poland

How precisely would you want for the categories to look like? Sprint Cheese Race Big Block Invisible Sprint Sprint No Hold Pentomino 0 Finesse Sprint With all other cats made as miscallenous and with each cat having 2-4 subcategories.

More or less something like this? Or did you wanted to group them together in a different fashion?
