Retroactive timings?

Would it be reasonable to retroactively apply timing from the longer runs to the shorter categories? The longer categories medium and hard include the other categories as part of their run. So if I ran medium and my time for the first half beats the easy time, should it apply?

There is only one difference in play, and that's AI strength. This should be a disadvantage though, and make runs of just easy/medium typically faster than medium/hard.

The reason I'm suggesting this is that it would help fill out the categories for a less run game, and stop the first run of easy/medium anyone does from being an automatic record. They should at least learn the game a bit.

I think the Easy run misses Red City and Great Wall + Pocket bikes?

Yeah, timing would stop where the end for that difficulty is.

I just finished a championship again on hard mode mode and yeah AI can be a challenge to get through. But I'm in favour of just an easy and medium run as they're going to be faster than hard and also verifying that the run is done in medium mode if setting a time for hard is going to be hard to prove since difficulty is changed in main menu (asides from looking at the save file which mentions hard).

TL;DR

Easy is its own thing, lets make medium the full tourney speed run only.

I don't think I'm communicating my point well, so I'll give a worked example using my WR run.

I finished the hard mode run in 1:29:04. This was all tracks forward->pocket->reverse->reverse pocket.

Medium is all the tracks forward->pocket. So the first ~half of hard is just the medium game run.

I'm suggesting that I can stop a timer there and submit the run as a medium game run as well as the full run as a hard run. This would give me a time of 43:54 for the medium run. This is consistent with the timing rules for the category with the exception that I'm playing a harder difficulty, which is a disadvantage in the category and shouldn't be a problem.

The easy run can similarly be derived giving me a time in that category of 16:46. [Assuming it ends after the lost ruins, I haven't played in years and I don't really remember. But I'm planning on playing again].

Because of the difficulty shifts, running a shorter category should be easier and should produce better times, but I don't think it would be a problem to allow the harder runs to submit times to the shorter categories.

Ohh actually I didn't know that medium didn't have reverse mode. What you've said makes total sense thanks for clearing it up.

I think that's fine to submit a time using that method (Taking your split at the end of pocket or end of lost ruins). Like you say Hard AI is a disadvantage and runs in that specific category should in theory provide a faster time.

I'll need to check to make sure the ordering is correct before submitting times, should be able to look into it tonight.

Playing through Easy right now, its the first 6 tracks (ending at Lost Ruins) + 6 tracks reverse mode.

Strangely when in reverse mode in Easy mode I got the speed/gear bug where I couldn't reach top speed in 6th (Race) or 5th (Dirt) gear, as if I was stuck in a lower gear even though I could select 6th or 5th (unlike the old bug where you were actually stuck maximum at 5th or 4th gear). But after restarting the game that bug cleared so, got to run it through Easy Championship again to try to see if that's the trigger of that.

I just ran through Easy Mode again, same bug happened at Rock Forest reverse so it affects 2 last tracks top speed (but makes so boosting around corners is easier + I think makes the dirt bike not jump on a few jumps) but after you have to restart Moto Racer otherwise the bug will persist even with a difficulty change in the options menu.

Can't say I've ever run into that bug before. So, the races do not align like I thought? Well, I guess I've got some runs to do.

Victoria, Australia

Yeah turns out none of the runs align. Also only encountered that bug in easy mode so far.

Going through medium mode now. It's all tracks; normal, reverse, then pocket and finish is pocket reverse.

After reading the post (sorry for delay, school stuff + IRL issues), I'll make you both mod of the game, and fix the rules, I didn't think that AI in hard could be ruthful. I like the idea of stopping timer on half part in Medium, and also I had the idea of making Only Forward (Forward + Pocket for PC), Only Reverse, and Full Run as sub categories of the difficult, let me know if fits well to the rules and I'll work in adapting them to the new ideas.

Thanks ShadowClaw :)

Not sure how we would go about those specifically as the championship mode does follow a set amount of races in a row. What you select on the main menu (reverse and pocket) only affects practice and single race mode. FYI I've only ever played the PC version (used to use the real CD but use GOG now).

Chile

Well, I only play the PS Version so it doesn't have pocket mode, only Forward + Reverse and the respective tracks in each difficult, so you'll know more than me how to handle the submissions/rules in PC version
