Just read the article, I really like the whole program! Especially the featured run option, that's really nice. I personnally don't mind ads, but it's mainly the other features that interest me. Can't wait to cancel my Geoguessr subscription and get this instead.

Just to be clear, the featured run option is currently available to subscribers only because it’s in beta, right? So it’ll eventually be released to everyone?

The only way to equip it is to go to your supporter settings and equip it so It might only be a supporter thing

As useful a feature as pronouns.

Time to get back to speedrunning.

Showing the boosts on the game page just made this site looks worse in a few ways:

  • Cluttering the page with more unnecessary infos.
  • Gives the impression to newcomers that the website only cares about selling boosts, instead of showcasing speedruns.
  • Almost all game pages will have 0 boosts.

Honestly, who looks at a speedrun leaderboard and cares about how many people boosting it?

Hope this site doesn't go to a similar direction to Twingalaxies, trying to encourage us in showing off pointless "medals" like skill points.

1.) Load the site up with ads rendering the site a nuisance for most and unusable for some. 2.) Wait 3.) Make people pay to fix a problem you added in the first place.

Reminder that adblock/ublock is free. Can't wait for exclusive forum and leaderboard discussion to become the norm.

There were always going to be ads in the end.

Pac ran the site off donations but that isn't a lasting model, and he was an individual that over time ran it with a handful of individual programmers. ELO, being a business, I'm not even sure the legality of them accepting "donations" when they're not supporting any kind of charity.

Edit: Personally, I think ELO shot themselves in the foot a bit with just the amount of ads they placed. All it needed was 1/2 ads, maximum. No video ad (...never a video ad...), not 3/4 and a video ad. You were surely to push people to use adblock, because there isn't a single rational person who would tolerate that amount of overkill with the ads. Not one. Not even these YouTubers and Streamers who pretend they don't use adblock by disabling it whilst browsing when streaming. LUL

Ads? Can be fine if done right. How they did ads? Basically begging people to adblock.

Ads were likely always going to be an inevitability, but I think if they simply replaced the donation model with a cheap monthly subscription service for forum flair they could have been fine. My biggest concern is walling off any content behind a fee. While a single forum being walled off isn't anything significant, it could lay the groundwork for the future of the site. Not saying elo will wall off submissions, but it's something to consider.

Personally, my biggest concern right now is why sitting idle on this site is using up more CPU than majority of other websites for me, and I think it's down to the animated gifs, profile pics and (now) names.

I would really be for a global option to just turn them all off on the user's end.

Like right now I can go on YouTube and watch a 720p video and that video playing brings the CPU to the same as me just idling on a page on this site with a single animated username on screen. Something isn't right there.

The donation model worked fine. There were a few crashes there and then but that's better than being bombarded with ads everywhere you go. I honestly think donations would still work fine because of speedrunning blowing up in popularity.

This isn't helping the community this is ELO trying to make a profit.

If SRC keeps going the direction it's currently going then it might be time to bust open Google Sheets again.

Also install uBlock Origin it's great :)
