Timing concerns

Hey guys,

Was reminded of this in the new pc run that was verified today.

For New Game, is there a particular reason why we end the timer on the shutdown sequence button press?

It seemed kind of strange to me, considering it's not really the last input of the game, or even the end of the chapter (ch6 has a bit more text after that point).

Personally it would make more sense to me to have the timer stop when the Chapter 6 Game Over/END screen is reached. Or even when the credits start playing.

Just wanted to see what other people thought.

I was the first person to do a run of this game so I picked, at the time, what was the most logical way to end the timer.

At the time of my run of DR2, I was more into DR:AE, where the ending time is after a big cinematic shot to the final boss. It just felt right to end the timer there because you lose control of Komaru and Toko (third person shooter) and just have an epilogue and useless dialogue left in the game.

So when I was making timing rules for DR2, being the only runner at the time, I thought it "felt" right to end the timer after a big cinematic moment, aka when they press the button

If you're not a fan of it, I can understand. I'll see if BadRNG has any input into this topic. If needed, I don't mind retiming everyone's time, since there are only 3 runs to date with the current timing rules.

I think ultimately it's okay either way.

It does nag at me that time is called before the game is technically over, but I get what you were going for. For DR:AE that makes total sense.

I was more worried about if someone new tried to pick this up and for some reason didn't know about that rule (but I imagine if they would go that far, they would probably look at past runs).

Now I haven't run this game (yet), but my personal opinion is that the timing should end on the last input before the credits, since that is what the Danganronpa 1 speedrun does. So that would be at the end of the epilogue. That would make things consistent between both games, and would make sense since the epilogue is technically part of the game.

Since the epilogue in theory should take the same amount of time every run, theres always the option of adding a set amount of time to the end of the run if they time it by the current timing rules, since they probably wouldn't speed through the epilogue. If the timing rules do change, there could be text added to each current run stating that the end timing is different than what the run depicts to help new runners. Since there are only a few runs, this shouldn't be too tedious. I wouldn't mind timing the epilogue if need be.

Yeah Smileyz, I think the most logical thing is to keep 1 and 2's timing rules the same. I'll see if anybody else wants to say something about this before changing it probably.

+1 to Smileyz's suggestion of ending time at the epilogue's ending, sounds good to me

veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery late reply to this but I think it'd make sense to be consistent with the first game and end on a similar time (means when the credits starts). If that didn't happen yet (the rule when it ends is unchanged), then we should this for now, what do you think? :P
