Can we start a Glitchless category?

As a new runner in the series I think it would be a fairer grounds to compete on, since most runs I see involve some kind of warping. It should also motivate new people to speedrun Doom, particularly if we put up some example runs.

Aren't the unity games relatively solid? So like warping isn't possible? I know it can be done in many other ports of the games, but to my recollection unity was pretty unbreakable like that

It would literally be impossible to do a glitchless run in Doom, as things can happen that are considered a "glitch" or a "bug" and it be completely out of your control. Besides, the tricks in the game aren't difficult to do (mastering them is a different story) so just practice whatever tricks you are capable of doing, and route around the ones you can't/don't want to do.

Well just watching the chapter runs I see a few missions where they seemingly activate things without activating them, such as the lift in E2 M2, or grabbing the yellow key through the wall in E3 M4. I really think its a stretch to say a glitchless is impossible on a 25m long game, unintended/unbeneficial glitches should be forgivable. This just lets people who dont want to break the game compete

Glitchless bans all glitches, not just intentional glitches. So if you perform a glitch, be it accidental or on purpose, the run is over/it is no longer a Glitchless run.

@TheDough_Nut And absolutely none of those tricks are difficult to perform. If you don't want to do them, then don't. We aren't gonna make an arbitrary category for something that's literally impossible to do on Doom. Like I said, you can't do a Doom run without some unintentional bug or glitch happening. And just simply banning tricks because you or "new players" don't want to do them is not enough to warrant a new category. Just learn the tricks. Or don't. Your choice.

Edit: To add, forgiving unintended unbeneficial bugs literally defeats the purpose of a glitchless category, whether we allow it or not. Learn more about how the bugs and glitches can affect the game, and the ones that don't but can still randomly happen, and you'll understand why a glitchless category is impossible.

Like what Thief said, can't do the glitches (barely many of them) that are actually quite easy to do, don't do them. Extremely pointless to make a whole category of things you can't be bothered to perform. Anyways, hope to see runs from you soon and best of luck with them :)

I will say that I had the identical feeling when I started submitting times. Now that I've looked more closely at many of the levels, I'm not even sure I'd call some of the tricks glitches. E2M2 for example you are simply hitting the switch a floor above you.

There are several jumps and rocket jumps throughout Doom that skip big sections and I don't think you can call these tricks glitches either.

I guess we would have to define which tricks are glitches, but like Thief said, "It would literally be impossible to do a glitchless run in Doom, as things can happen that are considered a "glitch" or a "bug" and it be completely out of your control."

I found some tricks/glitches very easy and others very difficult so just try them out and use the ones that you can do. If you need help figuring out exactly what to do, just ask and I'm sure someone will try to help.

Cheers
