Just a question...

Hello, I just wanted to ask if there was a reason why the Taiwan version used for speedruns is the "EA" re-release, and not the original "Acer" release?

Is it because nobody shared the CD image of the Acer release, or because the EA re-release has improvements and/or bugs fixed (like the Japanese re-release has)?

Thanks~

The taiwanese version we use apart from faster text is indistinguishable in any way from the japanese version, so if this acer release is like the old and slow japanese version, then I guess? Still I've never seen this acer release, join the re discord so we can discuss ways to obtain the game legally Kappa

The Acer release is the original Taiwanese release; not related to Japan. So I was wondering if you guys weren't using it because the EA re-release has something fixed/updated or just because someone shared the EA re-release at one point, and therefore it became "the" Taiwanese version.

I bet it's the second option, and I bet both releases are exactly the same, I'm just too lazy to check, I thought someone around here would have done that already.

Well share the iso and we'll get to work on it.

OK I see. Guess I'll be dumping both versions first, see if the files match and have the same size and date.

Not baiting anyone. Just busy with life.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure both releases are the same in terms of CD content. If the total size ends up being different, I'll share both CD images so someone can have a look.

Thanks for your patience, it may take a while.

See if there are any different dates or sizes. My EA disc is not with me at the moment so I can't check. If you need photos of files inside specific folders, just ask.

game runs great straight off bio3_pc.exe on Windows 7, speed is normal, sound is there, but I haven't tried the save feature, and there's no way to quit the game that I can find. had to close the exe manually, maybe there's a key to quit it properly, i dont know

@LuxKiller65 Try F9 to close the game, F10 for pause, F8 for fullscreen/windowed and F2 for options.

F9 shouldn't work I don't think. RE3 never had a way to boot back to menu unlike RE2 PC. Only reason it works now is due to DChaps SRT.

ALT+F4 would have the same effect I imagine.

F9 closes the game if you don't have the SRT. With the SRT it resets the game to the main menu instead.

Thanks, I'll try that. I haven't played Biohazard 3 in many many years, so it brings back memories. I had the big box European version for Christmas many years ago, I still remember it.

Also, I should be getting the other Taiwan discs soon so i can compare the file size, if anybody has an interest.

I would kill to find that in good condition, it had a Eidos insert that showed all of their games iirc.

Sure, please post your findings here, its always nice to hear about the various version of this game.

Ah yeah that is nice, I found a photo of the box content, there's the leaflet you mention.

Finally managed to scan and rip everything. Feel free to copy the message to the stickied thread about game versions if you want.

There are (at least) three versions of Biohazard 3 for Taiwan.

Biohazard 3 demo version for Taiwan Published by Acer TWP May have come with packaging and manual (not sure)

Disc size 100,274,176 bytes (no cd protection) "RESIDENTEVIL3TRIAL.EXE" dated 2000/10/25, size 74,558,160 bytes https://i.imgur.com/gUGiKR6.jpg

Biohazard 3 1st print for Taiwan Published by Acer TWP Comes in a large cardboard box with a jewel case inside

Disc size 686,614,528 bytes (safedisc v2 or higher) "bio3_pc.exe" dated 2000/12/27, size 2,045,303 bytes https://i.imgur.com/bsNpiVC.jpg

Biohazard 3 reprint for Taiwan Published by Electronic Arts Comes in a small cardboard box with a thick dvd case inside

Disc size 507,594,752 "bio3_pc.exe" dated 2000/12/25, size 1,290,240 bytes https://i.imgur.com/uAxl5mr.jpg

So, yeah, 1st print and the reprint have a different disc size and the main exe have different dates and sizes too. I have the disc images if someone wants to have a look. It's quite strange that the reprint uses an older exe of smaller size which is dated two days earlier than the exe used in the 1st print. I was expecting the same exe or a more recent one, not an older one.

The one published by EA is the one used for speedrunning if I recall correctly. Thanks for putting in the time to post this :)

Yeah, I downloaded the ISO from Discord and it matches my EA version.

If anybody wants to mess with the Acer version for fun just let me know. Best I can find is that it displays an Acer copyright when the game boots -- the EA version has it removed.
