Glitchless Idea (not a new category)

What if, we had glitchless runs on the same leaderboard, but we used the run type thingy on speedrun.com. So, when you submit a run, the default would be any% or glitches, but you could also select glitchless. I don't think it would be a big issue for moving things over, since you could remove the TG rules one on CE, and have it with regular timing on this page. I don't think people would mind resubmitting their runs with updated timing, the mods wouldn't have to retime and move things over.

"Moving glitchless to the SMB1 from the SMBCE leaderboard would either: a} require us to manually recreate each run from scratch b} require us to ask every person who has submitted a run to that category to resubmit it on the SMB1 leaderboard

Glitchless isn't considered to be a serious category which is why it's on the CE board.

Glitchless categories in 2D Mario games historically have not been very popular and I don't imagine that will significantly change. Most runners and viewers are fascinated with breaking the game and find it more interesting to see cool 'tricks.'" -roopert83

You, um, liked this comment three months ago... Most of the SMB1 community has little interest in Glitchless, unfortunately or not. I doubt the moderators would put the effort in for a change few would appreciate. Any% is suitable for pretty much anything except the best of Glitchless runs. By the way, never assume it'd be easy to move things over. That leads to pain.

Only people who still actually care about glitchless would have to move their runs over. It wouldn't actually increase workload for mods.

why though? i dont see any purpose in moving it. its very arbitrary and doesnt really add anything into the run.

It doesn't add anything to the run, which is why it doesn't need it's own category. All I'm asking for, is a leaderboard timed by SRC rules, that is glitchless. It would be one of those run type select things, so you could use a clarifier thingy.

I don't agree with moving it over, but changing timing might make sense.

I wasn't aware there were timing differences. On the glitchless rules I see "Timing begins when pressing start on 1 PLAYER GAME." - and any% timing starts on the timer appearing on 1-1.

I have no horse in the race, so to speak, since I only run any%... but I don't see any value in moving glitchless over to the main boards, since it's such a niche category (so it belongs perfectly in category extensions). On that note, it's a little weird that minus world ending is on the main leaderboards.

However, timing them differently doesn't seem to make any sense to me. I guess it's because that's what Twin Galaxies used to do with their glitchless runs (which were just... "runs", since they didn't allow any%), so speedrun.com SMBCE mods just timed it the same way --> It seems like changing the timing would be a good idea. Especially since there's only 13 runs, and you'd (probably) just subtract the same amount of milliseconds from each run to get the normal timing anyway.

This next paragraph doesn't deserve its own post by any means, but I'll add it in here - Could a mod look at DekuScrub32's run... needs to have milliseconds removed. #234 @ 5:20.200

Ok, now we're talking. I can see how moving over might not make sense, but the timing change, could make sense, since more people just use this sort of timing, and it seems like "glitchless" isn't "glitchless", it's "TG Rules". @Darpey Because you can press start at different points in a framerule, the start time can be different. Let's say I press start at the start of a framerule, I have to wait an extra 20 frames for the game to start, over someone who started on the last frame of a framerule. So, timing title screens is a thing for glitchless right now.

oh that's true - but you could figure that time out just by a quick frame count between start press and the #400... not trivial but wouldn't take that long

also lol @ timing the start screen - that's so against the spirit of glitchless ironically

TG timing is irrelevant now, it's really weird having your TITLE SCREEN affect your time.

If we were to change it over, and the mods needed help, I would be willing to help retime the runs, (I could only do it as accurate as VDUB though)

I believe that there is a glitchless category for the game "Super Mario Bros. Category Extensions".

@Mars02 That's previously been established. There seems to be a pattern here of you making pointless posts.
