A few Questions about the game

Good day everyone,

I am quite new to the speedrun community and decided to start looking into speedrunning Luigi's Mansion. I have a few questions regarding the game and speedrunning the game:

  1. Hidden Mansion : I know that in order to unlock the Hidden Mansion you must have beaten the game at least once. But, in order to keep playing this mode, do I need to avoid saving the game if I want to continue using this mode? Like in case i want to reset my run?

  2. We all know that the Japanese edition has faster texts, can the Japanese version of the game be purchase in the Wii Store? (P.S. I only have a Wii U)

  3. Is speedrunning the game on Virtual Console Legal?

I have more questions, I just can't think of them at the moment xD

I am currently playing the game (casually) on my GameCube (English Copy). I own a AverMedia capture card, but do not own the component cables (since it's pretty expensive). I'm going to have to find another way of recording my runs in the future.

If you guys have more information on what's legal or what's not for speedrunning this game, please let me know :)

Alright thanks for the info! I guess I'll have to do my runs on an English copy of the game for now.

Yeah, Luigi's Mansion isn't on Virtual Console. You also can't emulate what so ever. You have to run on a hard copy or USB Load

Here's one more question... I'm looking for component cables for the GC, I'm looking on amazon but I only see one offer and it's $499 :/. My capture card only takes component or HDMI. Any suggestions?

Are you sure that composite cables won't work on the capture card? I could easily be wrong, but I assume they should. I know it's not the best quality, but it's better than nothing. S-Video can help a bit if your capcard accepts that at all.

The capture card that I own isn't compatible with Composite cables. It has an AV input, but only for component. Here's a picture of the capture card that I am using. In the top right corner is the adapter that i used to stream my console, if i have a component cable for them:

https://www.google.ca/search?q=avermedia+component+input&espv=2&biw=1062&bih=647&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjWsIiRs9vJAhWIwiYKHYC2DOAQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=CuFBXVefWR1EPM%3A

But it's fine, I've decided to go visit a pawn shop later today and purchase a Wii and a Component cable for it so I could stream myself practicing my speedruns.

Maybe in the future I'll purchase Japanese Wii :)

Thanks for the help though!
