Slower Verification Times?

Is a month of waiting for a run to be verified THAT much of an issue?

Complaining here is not going to make things faster. Just be patient and move on. They already know about the lack of moderators, iol literally responded to this thread saying that 2 weeks ago.

I'm anti-whining - and ordinarily I'd agree that a person should just wait. The difference here is that 2 months is a long amount of time to wait, especially when there's a solution available. There are more than one volunteer timers that are competent that have said that they would love to be added as mods - I don't know why it hasn't happened already. Granted, I'm naive to some level, but from my point of view, it seems like a simple solution of flagging one or two more people as mods that have proven themselves capable of timing (and take off the person/people that aren't active as mods if that makes it better)... then if they abuse it, a super-mod can remove them as mods - I don't see the drawback here. That solution could be implemented soon, and the queue of runs requiring verification would be much more manageable.

Politely bringing up the issue occasionally (in a respectful way) is a good thing imo.

Also <3 to the mods that verify runs.

I agree with darpey. I don't say much on here but this has been on my mind a lot lately. I have an analogy for what it's worth. When I started my first job, I was not completely competent in all the required tasks the position demanded. However, my boss gave me a 30 day probationary period to prove myself. Guess what happened? It motivated me to learn the required information to adequately tackle the position responsibilities, and they signed me on. moderation requests could be applied in the same fashion. I feel like this topic has been explored many times and each time I hear it discussed, I often do NOT hear grumbling or complaining, but earnest offerings of help that go seemingly unnoticed. In the least, why not give someone a probationary period. I just don't see that being such a difficult undertaking. I personally love to teach and what a great opportunity it would be if someone was given the option of being mentored by a mod to help assist them. I just don't see how that could go wrong. thanks for your consideration of these comments and suggestions. I love this community and just want to continue seeing it grow. that's my two cents.

"And we honestly do need more active moderators, but since we discuss those things with each other in advance nowadays, our decision-making has slowed down a lot. Hopefully we can add more soon." Those words are from iol. Obviously, more mods would be ideal, nobody is saying that's not the case. I don't know what or how the mods discuss these things, but there is obviously a roadblock in some shape or form. The mods are reasonable people.

Also, I agree that 2 months is a very long time for a run to be verified. I don't think anyone has been waiting that long, however.

But yeh, trust the mods, they have already said that they are working on this issue. Pestering everyone by saying that your run still hasn't been verified won't make anything better. I say we give them more of a chance to work things out, and I agree with all the suggestions of ways to resolve this issue put forward.

I will apologize for not being around for the last few weeks. I'm involved with starting a side business and it's been keeping me extremely busy. So busy that I haven't had time to even look at SRC, stream or even watch streams. I'm gonna try to knock out some when I can, but as blubbler put it, we do need active people to verify runs. When I do go away, the queue builds up and sometimes it seems like I'm the only one who does verify runs. I at least verify a very large percentage of them anyway.

I am hoping that we will get this issue resolved sooner rather than later, but we do move at the speed of the American government, so I can't really put a lot of expectations on when that will be. There's only so much I can do by myself.

It's appreciated for those of you who have been patiently waiting. For those of you who have voiced your concerns/frustrations and have been waiting for quite some time...I don't blame you.

There's an awkward balance here where we want to do the best job possible, but have limited time. Of course one answer to that is to add more verifiers. That's being worked on. That will help deal with the bulk of runs, but there are specific runs which stay in the queue for a very long time for other reasons. There can be issues with finding the exact time of a run, among other things. You'll notice multiple people in this thread specifically complained about the 8-4 IL category. First of all, main SMB1 categories will always have higher priority than category extensions for obvious reasons. But blubbler explained why these runs specifically haven't been verified. Similar issues to these will be brought up, some feedback is given, and then, either while waiting for more mods to give feedback or while actively trying to solve the issue, time passes and the run doesn't get verified. That's not always the case. Many issues are resolved and dealt with. But that's the reason some runs (including runs done by mods themselves I.E. My All Stars Any% runs) take so long to be verified.

It's better to have a leaderboard that is as accurate and reliable as possible that even takes months to verify runs than a leaderboard that verifies your runs after a day but doesn't even check if it's a real run, or is even timed correctly. If you helped the moderators do some of the work for them (finding the time your run is with the negative timer you used, using the sockfolder rom so it is very easily timed, and making the recording good quality and easy to watch)
