How can I put a personalized country badge in my name? How can I be a translator?

There are my two questions.

For country badge: It already appears next to your name on leaderboards because you have your country set: https://i.imgur.com/uCDgfBS.png

For translators, the staff application page (https://www.speedrun.com/staffapplication) says that applications for translator aren't open yet.

Netherlands

Yep Translator applications are currently closed for now.

@Derek_MK yes but so many people have ficticious countries like Valhalla or other things like European Union.

Or for example putting the flag of the autonomous community instead of the country on the leaderboards

Israel

@DumberAgate855 Valhalla and European Union (and also "Esperanto") are special in that they specifically exist in the countries list but are all hidden. You can find them on the countries dropdown by typing on a certain letter on the keyboard to toggle through all elements starting with that character, until you reach a hidden option. Alternatively, you can remove the "display: none" from the hidden country in inspect element mode.

All other countries are normal and can be accessed normally.

Leaderboards dont use the autonomous flags for most countries in order to make it easier to identify the user's country on first glance. With the only (to my knowledge) exception being the UK.

Ok, thanks @Lonne I saw people with the badge of Basque Country and Catalonia, for that I´m asking.

Israel

@DumberAgate855 That's how countries works in this site, some of them have "sub-country" field.

Pick most countries like Israel or Belgium, there is only the main country. Pick Spain, there will be an extra field for "autonomous community", like Catalonia (You yourself picked Galicia). Pick France, you can choose a region. Pick England, you can choose a county. Pick Scotland, you can choose a shire. Pick Thailand, you can choose a province. etc etc.

This extra field is not required, so runners can choose to not fill it, and in that case the flag will be of the main country.

Ok, thank you

A select few regions also allow you to show that region's flag on the leaderboard, or the parent country's flag. They are regions with high senses of nationalism, active independence movements, or their own flag emoji. They are:

[flag:gb/eng] England ([flag:gb] UK) [flag:gb/wls] Wales ([flag:gb] UK) [flag:gb/sct] Scotland ([flag:gb] UK) [flag:gb/nir] Northern Ireland ([flag:gb] UK or [flag:ie] Ireland) [flag:es/ct] Catalonia ([flag:es] Spain) [flag:es/pv] Basque Country ([flag:es] Spain) [flag:es/cn] Canary Islands ([flag:es] Spain) [flag:ca/qc] Quebec ([flag:ca] Canada)

PS please don't request more to get this treatment or you'll open a can of worms.

Oh, I see

European Union

Can of worms? It's not about the politics, but giving people the option to use the flag they identify with. How is that bad?

Canada

I assume there was a specific reason why only those regions are treated that way, but in truth I would have no idea what that reason is, and we can't really ask Pac since he's gone. The new owners of the site might address this at some point, though they probably don't know either and I can't imagine this is near the top of their list of things to investigate.

Anyway, gonna lock this since it's a 4 month necro directed towards an inactive user, and this isn't really the right place to discuss this anyway (the original purpose of this thread was served a long time ago).
