Thoughts on the FF category?

Since OpenRCT2 runs are now allowed for this game, I wanted to introduce a category that permitted the fast-forward feature. However, I thought it made more sense to have this mode respect the time requirement of each scenario (complete by October year 3, for example). I didn't give it much thought since I prefer playing the game at 1x speed. What are your thoughts on the FF category? Should the runner have to wait until year X or no?

Well, the normal runs are also stopped as soon as the goals are reached.. You would see lots of time-wasting if the player has to wait for year X. For the RCT2 scenarios in OpenRCT2 the run is also stopped as soon as the requirement is reached.

Also, having to wait for the game to reach year X will mean that all the times that will be set will probably be really close to each other, while early scenario completion will allow you to beat the game a year faster for example if you use the right strategy, so you can set a better time.

I remember thinking something along those lines too when someone requested the category a while back. I guess the question is, is anyone opposed to switching the category to not requiring to wait? I suppose the nice thing about making the rule change is that for the runs already submitted I could just retime them to the moment they meet the requirement.

I don't think we should make it any different from how it is done over at the RCT2 speedrun page. Early scenario completion makes it a lot more exciting.

adding on to what's already been said, having early completion on doesn't drag the game out for longer than it should. waiting for X years is not only time consuming for the viewer, but the player as well. it would be daunting if the WR in each category was 30 minutes or more, and potential new runners may be turned off from the category because of the runtime. with early completion, the pace makes the runs much more digestible and exciting to watch.

just as an example my Six Flags Belgium IL OpenRCT2% record was made before early completion was a thing on the leaderboards. at 13m55s it's currently the longest time in that category, and most of that time is spent fast-forwarding, and waiting for marketing campaigns to finish so i could redo them. it's honestly really boring to watch. with early completion, that time can be cut down by at least 75%.

OpenRCT2 times (if done nearly perfect):

1 year = 6 minutes 49 seconds 2 years = 13 minutes 39 seconds 3 years = 20 minutes 29 seconds 4 years = 27 minutes 19 seconds 5 years = 34 minutes 9 seconds

and so on...

It's always the same, it isn't about skill, it's just about waiting until the time finishes.

(NicsiYT did once "27:18.983" on a FF%4years, but I think it was just luck.)

Ok it looks like everyone agrees here.. Could you accept my White water park (Aqua park) run then? :)
