Hi everyone!

As you've all probably seen throughout the other forum posts, RE1 has a bit of history with emulators which is why we've been rather resistant to allowing more emulators because either 1) there's no way it will compete with the PSXjin runs or 2) it'll be much faster and thwart the history of that board (such as ePSXe).

A bit of history: before about 2015/2016 the PC version of RE1 was basically unplayable and ran entirely too fast. This meant that Emulator was the primary platform for RE1 and strict rules for emulator version had to be put in place for consistency. Then Supergamer's patch was released and fixed timing issues, speed issues, and other things, so PC version became usable and took over as the main platform. Since there's so much history with the game on Emulator, we never wanted to change those rules so as to preserve that board.

The problem now is that PSXjin does not play well (or at all in some cases) on modern machines and it's never exactly been a great emulator anyway, tbh. I've been thinking for a while to make a separate platform for a modern emulator, and recently Dino Crisis 2 has actually implemented this exact thing (Emulator and Emulator (Legacy)). I'm glad to see others had the same idea and it works well, so I've finally pulled the trigger on starting this setup for RE1. We will eventually add "Duckstation" (name to be finalized) as a platform.

The RE1 mods are discussing currently rules for the category and setting up the emulator and testing it. I've requested input display as a feature in Duckstation and the dev agreed to add it (https://github.com/stenzek/duckstation/issues/1889), so depending on how long that takes to roll out we'll sort out rules for it, but you should expect to have to display inputs. We should be able to get the category going in a couple weeks here (lots of stuff going on with the RE1 tournament at the moment).

tl;dr - Duckstation will be an allowed emulator soon and will have its own platform so competition can be meaningful and fair. It's not approved yet, so please don't submit runs with it until you see the actual platform show up! (We'll update here)

Alright, Duckstation is now a category here, and for your reference, here are the rules copy and pasted. Please use the correct emulator settings for runs.

Runs must be done on the Duckstation emulator.

Required Emulator Settings -CPU Clock Speed Control must be unchecked and Read Speedup set to "None (Double Speed)". (Found in console settings) -Emulation Speed must be set to 100% and "Run ahead" must be disabled. (Found in Emulation settings) -Show OSD Messages, Show FPS, Show Emulation Speed, and Show Controller Input must be checked. (Found in display settings) -Force NTSC Timings (60hz-on-PAL) must be unchecked (shouldn't matter much since PAL isn't allowed anyway)

-Playing music over the game is not allowed.

Hi there, nice to see you created a DuckStation sub-category like Parasite Eve 2 and Dino Crisis 2.

I hoped this was also the opportunity to finally take out Console emulations runs from the "Emulator".

You have a bunch of runs made on PSvita/PSTV/PSP under the "Emulator Legacy" sub category and you have a bunch of PS3/PSN runs under the "PlayStation" category now. I think all of those should be unified under a single category "PSN" just like on Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Dino Crisis 2.

As PSTV gamer I find it odd to see a PSTV official Sony console considered at the same level of a broken emulator for PC like ePSXe.

@RapixOnGaming i agree they shouldn't be grouped together with Emulator, i made the suggestion a few days ago to other moderators about going this route of separation so we'll see what happens with that.

Hello guys,

I am interested in trying to run biohazard on an emulator for the first time, as there is just one run on duckstation i will try that emulator but i have a few questions..

Any idea why the runs on Playstation don´t do the acid skip like on PC?

Maybe because on PSX the timings are on real time instead of in-game time and the time save is not really there like on PC?

And it seems it takes around 10 minutes more to complete the run on duckstation comparing to the the legacy emulator, it´s a big gap considering it´s just a different emulator.

Thanks

Duckstation runs pretty slow in comparison to an OG PS1 let alone a PS2 with fast disc speed. With games on Duckstation that don't require the game to load every 10 seconds or less it runs great, but games like RE with it having to load every single screen transition and door sequence the emulator really struggles with loading times. Even with Dino Crisis 2 its very slow. Otherwise Duckstation runs great, input response is very good. But the inconsistency of the loading times does take a few days to adjust to if you are used to either OG hardware or the legacy emu. With the skip you are talking about, might be under the 'Major gltiches' category instead of the 'No major glitches' one but i'm not too sure cos i havn't heard about the acid skip before, Hope this helps you :)

On Playstation we don't do acid skip because it's faster to take the acid rounds from Barry due to loading time and extra menu/banking time. As far as Duckstation being that much slower then the legacy emulator I know it's a bit slower, but from what I understand about Duckstation is that it's a much more reliable emulator to use. Also all categories use the in game time, no matter the platform.

Duckstation is great i highly recommend it. And the graphical enhancements you can add to the games is incredible. Some games benefit from this feature massively and it doesn't affect the performance of the game either. With RE it makes the character models, enemies and key items look incredible! :)

What i meant is that on PC the timer stops on door transitions, when opening and closing the menu, etc, that´s why doing the acid skip still saves time on PC, even though you have to go pick the acid rounds later before yawn 2.

On playstation the time is always adding up, no matter if you´re opening doors, the menu, etc. so its not worth it.

But I think pause cancelling for knifing or bazooka still looks faster than waiting for the character to recover from the animation, it´s funny seeing old chris runs and people we´re not doing that and resorting to other tactics.

I ended up completing a run first on psxjin but i tested duckstation and the sound is better and more consistent, the graphics too and it´s generally a better experience.

I just have to get used to the way pre-turning works on playstation, which for me it feels that the character starts turning before the screen is actually showing the character, which doesn´t happen on PC.

Sega Saturn Battle Game - PAL

We have recently come across the fact that the final time on the timer during the gameplay and the final time on the results screen do not match in the PAL version, with the results screen time being lower by up to 9 seconds based on info we've gathered. Frame counting shows that the timer during ga
