Miscellaneous Category Suggestions

I have a couple suggestions for miscellaneous categories for this game. They're mostly just memes, but they're things that I've done that I've found fun, so maybe other people would as well.

#1) Trifecta% Rules: -Must Complete Any%, Blue Line, Red Line runs. -Any% must be done last (the cutscenes for the different Venom endings are different lengths, so this would normalize that). -Blue line and Red line can be done in either order. -Timing starts on first frame of Corneria stage, ends when you lose control after killing Andross in Any%. -The game must be reset when "Mission Accomplished" fully appears on screen (dun-dun-dun-DUN, reset on the 4th dun). -Emulators, turbo controllers, and Gameshark cheats are banned.

~Works well as a practice category, or if you're sick of resetting.

#2) Yellow Line Rules: -Must complete all 3 Yellow Line stages (Katina, Solar, Macbeth) from the start of the game -Timing starts on the first frame of Corneria stage, ends after killing the boss of Macbeth (either by shooting the switch or killing the boss. If you kill the boss, it's the frame the "Hit +X" appears, if using the switch, when you lose control) -Emulators, turbo controllers, and Gameshark cheats are banned.

~For playing/optimizing stages that wouldn't otherwise be played in any run other than 100%.

#3) Booty% Rules: -Starting on Venom (Blue), you must crash into Golemech's butt. -Timing starts when you get control on Venom (Blue) and ends on the first frame after hitting Golemech's butt. -Emulators, turbo controllers, and Gameshark cheats are banned.

~100% Meme. Basically you'd do this if your run is dead and you're bored. I don't even know if you can hit his butt, I've never actually tried. But it'd be kinda funny. If you can't, it can be changed to "shoot out his butt".

Let me know what you think. They're all pretty special. I probably just look like a tool, but I think they'd be fun to have. If you have any questions or need clarification, let me know.

"Do a bunch of games/cateories in a row and call it a new category" has never really made sense to me. Just like "Do a run up until this point of the game although you do exactly this in a normal full game speedrun" hasn't either. If you want to do runs of all categories in a row, go for it. But I don't want it on the lb personally. I know, I know, I am not a dictator of this community but that is my opinion. Feel free to crush it.

Yellow Line as a MISC category would work, but then we need rules for it. Also, including the first 2 stages but not the final 2 seems weird. Worth discussing though, but yeah, as a MISC it would work I guess.

The third one is just a wtf for me but alright. :)

I would love to see these as categories and was wondering if these get approved can we also add them to star fox 64 3D?

I love how this forum alerts me when someone likes my post but not when someone replies to it.

That was the reason that I suggested them as MISC categories, is because none of them are like really runs, moreso just practice or something you do if your run is dead anyways. And the Booty% one would be timing the stage of Venom, not the whole game. It'd be something you'd do if your run dies on Bolse or something, that's all. But I understand not wanting them. I just found them fun so I thought I'd suggest them.

Now for Yellow Line, the reason that you'd include the first 2 stages in the timing is because you have to play them anyways. You aren't required to play the last 2 because they're not yellow stages. But they could be included.

And the Trifecta% is a category that I've raced with people a few times. I just find it fun when you don't wanna take runs too seriously. But I understand not wanting it on the leaderboards. Really the only one I was kinda serious about was Yellow Line. But thanks for your input :D

I agree with Yellow Line as a Misc category but it needs rules, and it must complete the game. It makes no sense to have a category that just stops w/o an ending. Though IMO, it's got the weakest potential to be added due to the nature of how this game works with the "Lines."

"Trifecta%"

This sounds like an "All Stages" speedrun which I actually see it having the biggest potential of being added.

More feedback is needed, but I really don't understand how yellow line would work, but at least the all stages idea seems fluid enough to work

Fair enough. I do get what you're saying about the fact that there's not really a yellow line. And I do think that an "All stages" speedrun would be benefitial, since it could end much like 100% does on Venom. I just kinda wanted a category that incorporated Solar and Macbeth, since I know a lot of people like those stages (especially Macbeth) and it's kinda a shame that you only see them on a run where you're most likely not gonna get that far in anyways.

One main reason why I don't like the idea of running all stages in a speedrun is because that is basically 100%. You would speed up Katina and Bolse a lot, but otherwise the stages would look the same except for the score. Collecting score costs you make 5-10 seconds in each stage, at most. So if you want that, just run 100% instead.

I think all stages is a good idea y not try it out let's see what happens

Still, at least with all stages you aren't playing under Expert difficulty, so it'd make sense. Also I really don't like Misc. categories in general but if multiple runners were to do runs of All Stages it'd make for a more convincing argument than just requesting it to be added when no one has done runs yet.

Well that's the deal with everything. Every since I created the first google doc leaderboards when the community was small I always told people that the community decides, I do not. And I stand by that, even if I do not enjoy some ideas myself, the community is for the community. If people run it, then I will add it (or someone else).

Blue Line was the same thing. No one of the old school guys (me included) wanted Blue Line to be a thing in the past. But since a lot of people ran it I discussed it in the SF64 IRC and we came to the conclusion to add it since people obviously wanted it. Although with that example we did some changes to it, being that no warps could be used. The reason for this was that Any% earlier was the same route except for Titania and we felt like if Blue Line would become a thing it should stand by itself. 2 bosses that was never seen before made it in and there you go, the community got themselves a new category.

So even if a new category is going to happen we need to discuss it. What are the restrictions and rules? I know one thing, I won't accept a "do not complete the game" category as a true category. And in that discussion I won't change my mind.

However, as Zewing said, if people start running "all stages" and compete in it, it will get added. Although first we have to make clear when to reset etc. And 1 person running the category won't make it on the leaderboards.

I'm really into the idea of an all stages category that's not 100%. I think it's different enough from 100% to make it a misc. category. c:

Legit All-Stages is really fun. Uses a lot of strats that you wouldn't use in 100% and it's really chill, plus the way Geri and I routed it it's Blue Line at the start and that's where both of our current PB's come from. Here's how we did it:

Corneria (blue) - Meteo (boss) - Fichina - Sector X - Titania - Bolse - Venom 1 - reset Corneria (red) - Sector Y (red) - Aquas - Zoness - Sector Z (lose) - reset Corneria (blue) - Meteo (warp) - Katina - Solar - Macbeth (nuke) - Area 6 - Venom 2

Here are some rules it could have: -Must kill all bosses -Must see all "mission complete" or "mission accomplished" screens (either or, just have to see one per stage) -Resets occur on the Mission complete/accomplished screen when the words are fully visible -Must do both versions of Venom (since they're both stages with different bosses) -Timer starts when you gain control on Corneria the first time and ends when you get the final hit on Andross 2, or when you see the final "Mission complete/accomplished" screen, haven't decided yet (I think on the final hit on Andross 2 is better, it quantifies a route).

Let me know what you guys think. We've had 3 runners doing it so far, hopefully more soon.

Seconded ^^ c:

Well I only have a problem with the resets. In 100% you need to reset after the solar system overview has loaded, because otherwise the medals wouldn't be recognized as received. For me it kinda feels weird with resetting before the stage would be recognized as beaten by the game. But then again, there is no real reason to wait for it since you don't need the medal. But idk.
