Game Leaderboards - User Country Flags Settings

United States

Everything here pertains only to runs as shown on game leaderboard pages.

Moderator badges and Twitch icons are removed at the moment. They are currently replaced with flags.

1: Flags were requested as optional, which is probably good. Should flags be default on or off. (How should it display to a non-registered or newly registered user?)

2: Do people want an option to re-enable moderator badges and Twitch icons? It would be off by default.

3: As a separate question: In the future would people like to see game region flags as text (US, J.P, PAL) or have them kept as the images they currently are.

United Kingdom

1: I think flags default is good, most people would be interested in seeing it I think.

2: Re-enabling moderator badges I agree with, but I'm not so sure about twitch icons, since to me it feels like it's giving more customisation to those people with partner, since normal users can't make an icon for themselves (afaik)

3: Flags are easier to recognise for regions imo (although AUS is still not included anywhere, when it should be with PAL)

Massachusetts, USA

1: Default off, just to keep it looking cleaner.

2: Yeah, the sub badges were a nice touch for those who had them, and I don't mind the swords

3: I think it's fine the way it is, but if someone wanted text for region then it could be added as another customization option.

Great update, leaderboards look really nice!

tiny nitpick that it'd be cool to have the option to set national flag instead of regional on my profile.

1: Default on, but I'm going to say that names should be aligned to the left instead of centered - it'll look uniform that way. Flags should be on to show off the internationality of the speedrunning community and allow speedrunners to represent their country.

2: No mod or sub badges, at all, on leaderboards. These show off status within the community or on Twitch, and that's unfair to others on the leaderboards that may not have partner or mod status.

3: Images are fine with me. I have no argument for or against them.

+1 to mobiusman for the national flag instead of regional - I identify more with the US flag than the NC flag.

1: Default on, flags are neat.

2: As long as it's off by default, i'm indifferent.

3: The J flag is ok but the european flag for PAL feels weird. Additionally, should picking a version flag be forced? Because for SMB3 for example, there's no US flag on the runs (it seems like version flags are mainly used for J or PAL version? i didn't check that many LBs).

About J version, would it be possible to have a Famicom (and SFC i guess) option when picking the console? Like for Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, it bothers me to see NES with a japanese flag.

Edit: additionally about flags, would it be possible for mods to add a country flag to non registered users (like adding a US flag to the various AndrewG times that have been submitted by some mods, for example)

  1. Default on, For an unregistered runner it should be left alone (Or see the (¤) at the bottom)

  2. Just like what Ben said, the mod/sub icons shouldn't return, all it does is show off status. To be honest, people can care less about who's mod or who has Twitch partner.

  3. Images are fine, way easier to read than text.

In addition to 3 though, ¤for the people who doesn't have a flag should be replaced with a empty flag with a question mark (Like what SRL used to have). Also, i'm not sure if I should include this but maybe left aligning the names might make the flags standout more. Or if that doesn't look good, then maybe make 'Country' a separate row (such as 'Player' ,'Time' etc.)
