Backup Disc

Hi all, i have a question. I recently found my ps2 again and my old jak and daxter game. Now i want to learn to speedrun jak and daxter, but the problem is that my original game disc is so scratched that it freezes the game in the first level after the first cutscene. now i got a backup disc of the game and freemcboot on my memorycard. (no hardware mods whatsoever) so i can play the game again. so my main question is, is it allowed to speedrun the game on a backup disc?

Hi, we don't allow this for runs currently, but of course you could still use it for practice at least. If you need a new copy of the game you can still pick it up pretty cheaply, if you want to know which versions have Citadel Skip before you buy it then check this link: https://wiki.jakspeedruns.com/PS2_Version_Check or ask in the discord :)

@blahpy If you don't mind, I'm curious about the reasoning for not allowing backup discs. If anything, it puts those runners at a disadvantage due to slightly increased load times caused by the laser having more difficulty to read the disc.

At least that's been my personal experience every time I've used backup discs (either to test language differences, or until I switched to the real disc if I wanted to be competitive). I know some speedgames do rely on slower loads for some tricks (ie: Battle for Bikini Bottom, where dirty discs were the meta for like a week once they understood that).

I can find the game for like 10$ on ebay, not a big deal. Just curious.
