Glitchless allowed?

I was wondering while watching BoneyC's stream if skipping the arena in the serpent temple using Dashing Derp Derp is considered glitchless? On one hand it's clearly not intended but on the other you aren't doing anything unusual movement wise.

Any thoughts?

I'd say it's authorized for a glitchless run since an arena starts when you hit its trigger, and using DDD this way skips the trigger.

Skipping arena(s) with Dashing Derp Derp is an unintentional mechanic that skips content, (Abusing how transitions from room to room doesn't fully check mid-movement events.) by laymen speedrunning definitions of glitchless I believe that this would be classified as one.

However, I believe it is realistic for players to come across and use this mechanic in blind play, thus it's still in the spirit of a "Blind-Play Based Route".

I would be leaning on the side of allowing this trick, assuming that runners believe that this stays in the spirit of thier runs of course. However, I would probably change the name of the category slightly so people don't get confused if they see the trick in action. Granted, people could technically still get confused seeing wallhopping, but wallhopping can't really skip any content in this game.

As an aside, any arenas skipped via normal gameplay mechanics is, obviously, not a glitch.

I would like to hear Weskurrr, Theblacktastic, and Boney's opinions on this before making a decision.

Oh, also, this mechanic hasn't been tested on any arenas besides Jade Temple / Serpent Temple and a couple of Los Manglares arenas, so it could be possible that there would be one or two other arenas skipped with said mechanic in a restricted any% run.

Seconding the category name change, maybe to something like No Major Bugs, No Gamebreakers, or something like that. To get (needlessly) technical, a glitch is sort of a one-off event; sometimes, a series of variables lines up to produce a fault that is often a one-of-a-kind and difficult, if not impossible, to troubleshoot because of its ephemeral nature. Bugs, on the other hand, arise from errors in the code that are ever-present, and thus are subject to troubleshooting (or in our case, exploitation, lol)

This seems, by and large, to be a category based on avoiding the use of huge game-breaking bugs (namely SDG and Swaphopping), and the optimization of movement and use of the mechanics you have available in a regular playthrough. I'm ok with an arena skip, as it uses these mechanics and knowledge of the game's systems to circumvent something without requiring the use of a swaphop or an SDG, but also without essentially bending the game over your knee and spanking it with a chancla. Personally, I'd hate to see the run thrown out because of something relatively minor.

That being said, I'd also like to see more input on this prior to moving forward with any changes.

This does seem like if allowed, it could possibly open up the door to more arena skips, which would not be in the spirit of this category. Then again, the trigger might as well have been placed too low, and you could just jump over.

Overall, I would not call this a glitch. Also looking at the current route and how it requires you to fight to get upgrades that are needed to go fast, I don't think this would trivialise the run, and the slippery slope this could be is not that deep. I don't think this would be beneficial until after Infierno, as you are basically "done" with upgrades and collecting money.

In terms of unintended mechanics, this falls between wallhopping and swaphopping, when looking at possible time saved, edging more to wallhopping and something that can be allowed in this category.

Overall, I do think that, in it's current state, it should be allowed, but something to keep an eye on.
