Shortcuts and skips

Unfortunately I'd be surprised if the gem ever comes an item that Indy can interact with. But one has to appreciate just how many tricks and things this game has to offer. We're still discovering stuff after so long.

I wonder if there are differences in the speed of dialogue in different languages... For example, is the german dub faster then the English version?

Austria

No that's something we discussed at some point. This game isn't like, say, Pokémon where all the text is written and language makes a difference in the number of written characters to load. Infernal Machine is more like a film, and I haven't timed it, but I'm fairly certain the cutscenes are always exactly of the same length. We could test it to make sure, though. That I know of, we could currently test on the English, French, and German versions.

Glitch that I did where I was able to long jump past the cutscene barrier and end up on the other side, saves a bit of time (N64):

Does it really save time? I mean, the cutscene still plays, Indy's just already on the other side when it does. Pretty cool jump in any case :)

United States

It only saves a tiny bit of time, instead of having to watch the cutscene then cross the gap, this glitch flings you across the gap then plays the cutscene so you're on the other side faster than you'd normally be

Austria

Cool! I'll have to try that on the PC version!

By removing the expansion pak and restarting the game when you finish Meroe you are able to bypass the entire Sol's mine level because that level requires the expansion pak to play. All you do is switch in the jumper pak and start up the level

Austria

You'll have to explain what that expansion pak is because I have no idea what's going on here o.0 Is that pak specific to this game or is that a general N64 thing? I never had one so I don't really know how that works.

United States

The expansion pak and jumper pak are N64 specific add-ons, the jumper pak comes with every N64 and is just place holder hardware for the expansion pak. It doesn't improve the N64's power its just the standard N64 tech. The expansion pak can be put in the same slot to replace the jumper pak and it improves textures, frame rates, console's graphical power, etc. Certain games are actually required to play with the expansion pak such as Donkey Kong 64 and Majora's Mask and other games are only recommended for using it so the games will run a bit better on the system. In Infernal Machine the level Sol's Mines is a very Graphically advanced level so if you can only play it if you have the expansion pak in, so what you do when you get to the level is shut off the console, take out the expansion pak and insert the jumper pak, then turn on the game, start the level in it will automatically skip the level for you becasue you don't have the expansion pak in. Then in the next level you can put the expansion pak back in so the game runs more smoothly and crashes less

Wow, that's a next level trick right there O_O Cool to know! Thanks for explaining!

Hey guys, I just want to share an alternative skip to the elevator at the beginning in Babylon. It's possible to jump directly up to the elevator. I've still got my problems with the morph jump and this skip is easier for me and it's even a bit faster. After a view tries I can get it done constantly. So here's a video:

Germany

It looks good, nice find. But does it work with 20 fps?

Hesse, Germany

Yup, I already tried it at 20fps and it works.

Here is a somewhat consistent way to skip the electric ball in Nub's Tomb. (Info in description)

I tried many spots too. Sometimes it was just a pixel off and.. dead. Hopefully this one is more forgiving. :)

To defeat the ice guardian in the "Shambala sanctuary" level you have to move this block in order to proceed. Thing is, I knew it was possible to move it out of the way, but I had a feeling it would take too long. Turns out it doesn't take too long, you just need to crawl to the wall. It should be slightly faster.

@Bluescreen18 I timed it and it's barely a few seconds faster than going the normal way, if at all. However, it is much easier since you avoid having to do a couple of potentially nerve-wrecking jumps.

It is a very nice find though, I wonder if there are any other places where it could be used.

Ok, i found 2 new ways to do this skip. Here is one:

and here is another (the fastest one)

The fastest version is very hard to pull off with 20 fps.

I don't think there are any other places where this glitch will truly come in handy except maybe in Palawan volcano level with all the blocks in the way. I have the feeling it won't save time tho.

I've been able to do the fastest way very often. Not always first try but it's easy to save scum it. This way it's definitely faster and a full fledged skip.
