Benchmark time

I have not yet done a serious run of this, but a casual-ish playthrough with 2 save/loads got me a 3:41.090 IGT on alpha campaign, that can be used as a benchmark for runs, expect a proper run with no save/loads to be about 3 hours IGT.

I hope you have a good day :)

Should the game be run IGT or external? If external, should we be running the build without the fmvs installed?

Probably in-game time as the main timer, since it's fairly reliable. If FMVs are optional then running without them is perfectly fine.

We have a Discord for Real Time Strategy speedrunning if you're interested. It's on the menu.

My estimate was ridiculously bad, I just ran a 2:20. A skilled player could get a sub 2 hour run.

The FMVs are optional, the game was originally open sourced as code only, the FMVs were open sourced a few years later and they are installed as a separate package to the base game.

My run is uploading at the moment, it includes a reasonably comprehensive running guide in the description. I may try to re-write it to make it suitable as a forum post.

The fact that there are no runs for this cool free open source game is unacceptable. Hopefully even my trash run will encourage more people to have some fun with this game.

I'll make a good in-game 4k screenshot of something cool and then imgur it to you to add as a background for this page if you like. heres how I set up the STK speedrun page: https://www.speedrun.com/stk I figure you could do the same thing here except orange+yellow instead of blue+aqua

Benchmark time for a full-game run is about 12 hours. Alpha campaign is sub 2 hours, Beta campaign is about 4 hours, Gamma campaign is 6 hours, 5 hours minimum.

I'm currently investigating a potential sequence break in the Gamma campaign, I ran into a soft lock where an invincible blimp appeared, so to prevent it from happening on the next attempt, i rushed that position first and took out the base and left 3 units at the blimp spawn location, this prevents the blimp from ever spawning, and prevents reinforcements from arriving, potentially saving about 30 minutes on that mission.

On the Nexus unit takeover mission, i arrived at a situation where no more units or buildings were being taken over, except for newly created ones, some research is required here for another potential sequence break, keeping as many units or currency as possible is paramount in the Gamma campaign.

I should start looking into this game and experimenting. I forgot about this game and since I'm gonna be going into longer runs might as well have some fun with it.

I'm keen to see another runner of this. I want to see a "OSGDQ" one day, so we need some more open-source speedgamers.

I have a Beta Campaign speedrun in Youtube processing at the moment, it was actually only 2 hours 10 minutes, a full game run of this would only be about 9 or 10 hours actually. Maybe even less.

Edit: All those estimates were way off. Alpha + Beta combined is only about 2 hours 30 minutes. Full game in about 5 hours.
