Video requirements?

Shouldn't it be required to post a video? It's been bugging me these past few days that times can be posted with no video proof and go into top 5 positions. I'm not saying that those times aren't legit, it's just hard to believe. At least make it a requirement to post a video for top 5 submissions.

I can only assume I am one of the people you are talking about and I apologize if this upsets you. If I could upload a video, then I gladly would. I just have no way of doing so. I recently downloaded LiveSplit and can at least upload my splits (before that I was using a stopwatch). If you would prefer me to stop submitting my times, then I will.

I didn't mean to come off as sounding rude or targeting in my previous post and if I did then I too apologize. I have no issues with you uploading your times, I just find it odd that there isn't a requirement for a specific position on the leaderboard. I know there are some submissions that have lost their videos back when this leaderboard used to be on a Google document about 8 months ago, so of course there's going to be runs with no videos.

Yes, I understand that we all can't afford capture cards, I just find it strange when there are only times posted in a recent submission (1-2 months) when there are some times that have a camera pointed at a TV with a stopwatch on the side. You may just have a data cap on your ISP and cannot upload videos to YouTube, and again I apologize if I'm looking too much into this. In no way am I saying to stop what you're doing. Those are your own times. It's what you can use to make yourself better at the game and enjoy it more and nobody should tell you otherwise.

I'm just raising my concerns for this set of speedruns as I find it a bit strange.

I agree with videowiz completely and I don't mean to target anyone as well. I just find it unfair that a time without a video could be on top of my decent time.

Whenever I see a time that's decently high in the rankings without a video it always worries me. I wonder if I should be accepting times that good without any sort of proof. My frame of mind has been that the WR for that category must have proof (for obvious reasons). Although I don't think Videowiz's suggestion is a bad idea, I understand that some people have no way of recording and uploading video proof, and I don't want to discriminate them too harshly. To me, this suggestion is saying that, "if you're top 5/top 10 material, you have to have video." This also means that, in a nutshell, you have to be far worse than others to have a non-video time accepted.

Would you all be in favor of non-video times requiring a screenshot of splits or splits.io integration?

I agree with you King about not being too harsh on those that cannot upload video proof. Though I feel that splits alone can be manipulated, I would feel better with your suggestion for uploading splits for runs without videos.

Ultimately it's your call on whether you want to make any changes from what it is now since there's submissions now without videos, but in the long run as we get more people submitting times we might be forced to make a change if people try to work around the requirements.

In the end, I'm 50/50 on making a change or keeping it as it is now. I'm only a single person (out of so many other people) addressing my own concerns. I'm leaving it up to you King.

What if my cups show I can do that time in a run???? I'll try uploading a 32 track tomorrow...

Since I started posting my times to this site, I have only been able to play on my GamePad and there was not an easy way for me to record that. However, starting tomorrow I should be able to record my runs assuming the set up is ok. I am acquiring a free TV that I will be able to use and I will set up my laptop in front of it to record my runs. The videos probably will not look great, but they should look good enough. Will it be ok if the actual timer (LiveSplit) is not in the video?

Yes Jim it is fine. Splits are not required to be shown on video but showing your splits in the description would be nice. (Splits.io)

Yep Patrick pretty much got it, no timer in the video is okay as long as you provide a screenshot of the timer or integrate from splits.io
