Just did a blind run, 2 packets with an electric kettle in 4:01.92. The eating portion began at 2:07 and the heating portion ended at 1:54, i think i can get sub 3:30 with cleaner movement, less time heating the water and less water so the oatmeal is less watery and easier to get inside of the spoon. I'll do another run in an hour.

I guess the big question now is does anyone know how to get an official scoreboard for the times? I think we could totally do an IRL category on the pre-existing oatmeal page.

I believe the run linked should be invalid because as other's have mentioned, a lot is done off camera and is borderline invisible to the viewer. The point I haven't seen while skimming is the video quality is too low to make out what is being done (probably due to the lighting). Also what does this speedrun entail? Is it just seeing how fast you can prepare oatmeal once a packet is opened? There's no sense of time or final time listed, so I'm not sure how it's defined.

The speedrun is defined by how fast you can prepare and consume an entire bowl of clearly identifiable oatmeal (defined by one quakers instant oatmeal packet and the measurements it specifies), so not just raw oats with a spoonful of milk. Techniques to eat and prepare the oatmeal (such as containers or heating methods) are completely game, there are no restrictions so long as the finished product can undeniably be considered oatmeal and everything is done in front of the camera. Time starts right when the package is opened and ends when the last bite is swallowed.

Come to think of it, the current best bet for this to go anywhere is we need one of two things to happen - a famous streamer like SmallAnt picks it up and it becomes a whole ordeal like the pencil sharpening speedrun, or, we get an official category. More than likely, if we submit multiple runs from multiple people to the pre-existing oatmeal page we can get an IRL category started. From there, there'd be a way higher chance for it to actually spread. To anyone reading this thread with access to instant oatmeal and camera, I urge you to submit your runs!

Please don’t bombard that mod with runs for a category that doesn’t exist. Just make a forum post if you want them to see them.

^^^^^^^what he said actually. I just figured a mass influx would inevitably sort itself out but yeah definitely way more civil.

can i use trader joe's brown sugar + cinnamon packets instead of quaker?

Georgia, USA

for the sake of continuity i think it would be ideal if all (if not most) are done with quakers instant, but so long as the measurements are comparable I think the trader's joe would be fine considering the additional cinnamon packets would be a time loss anyways.

i can do some experiments to see the weight in grams for each type of oatmeal and respond with results.

or i'll just look it up
