Reject: Contradictory use of "notable"

In the past week I requested several leaderboards. Frog King, Rolly, GET OUT of this Dungeon and Little Dragon Adventure.

These games are by no means very notable, they're rather new games released for the PICO-8. Today, within the same hour, LDA got rejected and the others accepted.

I don't see how a short(1:26) linear platformer like Frog King is apparently notable, but a metroidvania with death warps, health management and a lengthier speedrun(With my current route/strats you can't get a sub 6:00, I think) isn't. If anything, Frog King in this case is less notable of a game.

I'm fine with the site only accepting "notable" games, but this is just a contradictory use of the term.

Did the MOD give a reason for the rejection? If not (or if they did and you want an explaination) I suspect the decliner(is that a work) will pop in here at some point to respond.

Yeah, the reason for rejection was "This doesn't appear notable", hence my post above.

Hmm, that's interesting, I'm curious myself.

Looking too deep into this, if anything, reading the original post brings in itself contradictory.

Are you saying that all the games you listed weren't notable and we shouldn't of accepted any of the listed games?

Because of the logic you are applying, you seem to acknowledge that you knew they probably entirely weren't worth submitting but did anyway knowing they weren't notable (new or not) that we made a mistake of accepting certain ones?

EDIT: To prevent redundancy this very subject was touched on here not too long ago although the case was a bit different: https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/qwrl2

Not entirely. I submit them expecting them to be approved, but I am aware that I don't always get that right. There's been a few times when I'd submit a game and saw it got rejected for being too short, so I don't submit games that are under a minute length anymore.

But "notable" is so subjective, that I generally don't know when it applies or not. I don't know what makes one game "notable" if it's not a big game. Games like Legend of Xenia I didn't think where very notable(seemed like just a LoZ clone to me), but I immediately got a few runners, including the developers joining it.

My problem here isn't that I don't think these are not worthy of submitting, I see them all as fit. I just don't see what made you say "Ah, this platformer is just not notable. There is nothing here worthy of speedrun.com" when you saw LDA and then later looked at Frog King and said "Ah, this is perfect for the site."

I'm not asking this to get you to accept this leaderboard, but rather to help me not waste anyone's time in the future. I will keep running a bunch of indie games, I already have a bunch I had practiced and I don't mind not requesting their leaderboard, but on the flipside I won't know when to actually request any leaderboard at all.

EDIT: I do agree that as a topic, the idea is the same as that thread, except I felt it got too derailed by the time I made this one.

It's impossible to give you a straight easy answer at this time, if I gave you my own personal opinion it would be taken as the standard and facts of SRC, (it could create conflicted issues with different users and possibly the other content mods though we all try our best to follow what the stones are laid out to be) when it comes to every game that we get in the requests.

Though, it is planned to make it more clear on what makes something more "notable" in the near future, I assure you. Sometimes the problem is how to exactly word a rejection, there are a lot of people who don't take it well and would rather go on the offensive then have a kind discussion about it.

EDIT: I edited this post a couple of times to make it more clear. Probably isn't clear enough.

Yeah I see where you're coming from.

It's just that with a lot of games that I play, I just can't really tell when they're "notable". It's surprising when I see one game not make the cut, but others that don't seem "better" get a pass. It makes me wonder whether the next slew of games I run are worth requesting a board for, and to be quite honest, the answer seems to be "You can't know, until you try.", which is sadly a bit disheartening.

Thank you for answering, though, I hope you guys can sort it out. I imagine it's not a happy situation for either side.

EDIT: Nevermind, people may take what I said out of context. Though feel free to ask about things more directly towards all of us on the SRC discord.
