Difference between a world record and a former world record

Could someone explain the difference/s between a world record and a former world record? Also,is this the right forum section to do a question like this?

Gelderland, Netherlands

World Record is when someone has the best time of the game (atleast that what i would say about world record). Former world record is when the person had WR with his time but got beaten and now its a faster time. So he had wr with a time but now someone else (or he himself) was faster then that time.

You usually put "Former World Record" when the WR was held during a long time and it's the best known time with this period's strat and new strats have been found but you tag it as "Former World Record" because it's a great time with old strats.

grnts, Lameshark, and MASH like this

world record = current fastest known time former world record = previous fastest known time (sounds stupid and is mostly put by people who cannot let go of a "WR" status)

Ontario, Canada

PackSciences has it pretty close - if the run is significantly different, the wr of the old strats should be tagged as "former world record". If it's just the same run, then you got beat. Be happy your record drew enough attention to the game for you to get beat, don't be a douche

If I had set a WR and someone would have passed me I would still have been very happy to have held the WR for a while
