Rule questions

I was talking to some users over at the subreddit for KF2 and some question got asked about the speedrun rules that I could not answer, so Im posting them here:

Are you allowed to use exploits like 1.1) overfilling a weapon its current magazine 1.2) or overriding maximum ammunition for your currently selected build temporarily (neither going over the default possible maximums), 2.) reload animation cancelling (Tripwire is very aware of this one, probably since early Beta and doesn't seem to be interested in removing it) 2.1) it's very common for people to abuse this even if they are unaware of it, e.g. reloading a weapon and when the ammo fills instantly swap to another weapon to cancel the animation 2.2) to the point where you could have the selected weapon have its mag filled and instantly shoot without waiting for the animation to end or how about 3.1) in duos maximum free filling all armour and ammunition on one Support in one trader time or 3.2) free filling all grenades on one Demolitionist in one trader time?

Or how about preventing bugs? There's this thing if you buy double pistols it e.g. gives 50 ammo, but if you buy 1 you get 50, drop it, buy another, get 50 = 100 ammo. It seems logical to me that you should get more ammo by default because you buy two but it only fills the ammo to a certain point when buying that second pistol.

Are you allowed to extendedly be in the pause screen (purposely) which basically pauses timer and let's you see small parts of the situation going on around you. It's probably only an advantage of mere seconds, but would that be allowed?

This is all stuff in the game so it's hard to straight up not allow things of that nature unless the devs have expressed that they are not intentional and will be fix at later point. At which then they would be disallowed and if caught would disqualify a run. Alternative as well would be tracking patch versions which is easy and use that to order the board with to keep things current and consistent to games updates etc.

Hey hello, person in question here. Took me a while to activate my account since I kinda messed up the registering rendering my name unclaimable for 48 hours.

Overall I feel like the overcapping of magazine size and total max ammo is pretty clearly something to be disallowed then as the only way to have this happen is purposely preventing updates being applied to the weapon. Picking up ammo boxes or swapping to the counterpart skills correctly updating the weapon to its current build ammunition maximums.

The max free refilling in one trader time can safely be assumed to be an unintended exploit, though the code clearly allows for extra updates to refresh the resupply functions. I think I'll stay safe of either, but I feel like reload animation cancelling is fine considering Tripwire seems to have no intention of ever really fixing it, nor do I think they ever will.

These are things that if the devs have expressed are not meant to be possible and will be fixed then these will be something we would also consider as not valid for runs as well.

For things like Animation canceling, tricks like that have been around for ages and are not something that is a big deal as it is something easily replicate-able and is not a huge advantage in which it would break the games core mechanics. In many speed games animation canceling is a huge part of a small number of optimizations we would use to make runs faster.

Over filling magazines and the such, or anything that the devs have expressed that are not intentional and that will be fixed at later patches would be something for a clearly community and online driven game to also follow suit and not allow which would allow us to keep current to the game and as the game evolves and so would speedruns.

To make things as such a bit easier Implementation of running at latest patch could be something as well as stating which patch the game was played on for verification could be small things to consider.

As far as the things mentioned go, they do not seem to break the game in an real significant way that would not involve some level of skill and understanding of the game. This is something that would be discussed and decided with everyone as well, but from my standpoint if its in the latest patches its fair to use even if it would be fixed later as it still does not remove the skill requirement of understanding of the game at its latest patch. If this would change with other things found that would be considered an exploit or glitch that would break the games true functionality because of the nature of this game then we would have to scrutinize these things allot more of course.

My most recent run was rejected due to Super Swinging. I'd like to ask what direction you'd like to go for the glitch. I have a feeling that you'll ok the glitch because well it's in the game, but I was wondering what the ruling would be on macros. Other games allow stuff like bhop macros and such, but perhaps it's distasteful in kf2. I could redo my run, but do the swing cancels manually. However a argument for macros would be accessibility because short runs would devolve into whoever can swing cancel better during boss. getting that constant 40 msec rof is kinda messy.

Macros are not common accepted in many runs due to the nature of them as they are human skilled actions and they instead give an advantage over the mechanics within the game its self. Certain game breaking glitches will be rejected out of runs where its evident that its deemed and unfair advantage. Things that are fine that don't break the game but speed up animations and such are fine like overloading a magazine or reload canceling as examples. I can understand why this was the case be we do appreciate that you had at very least mentioned it in the first place.

That was me who rejected that one and Yes it just seemed ridiculous I didn't know what it was as I've never seen it once in my time of playing the game. Sorry about that.

I could be wrong but I think he is talking about when you set your mouse sense really high so you can spin for extra damage when using a melee weapon.
