Fuck my life, it really does work. So I guess we should talk about proper tuning.

France

Ok, so, for my inputs problem, I noticed that if I press a bit too long on my button, it does a change ingame. If I do a quick press, then it's ok. Hard to remember every time, but that's better than nothing.

Second, I found a way to be at 6.08 (or 6.04, don't remember well already...) without final window tint. In paint shop, use 4x whole-car vinyls. Then add sponsors everywhere (you can stay in Lv1 look for rear wings), and it should work. Also, we can still upgrade window tints (I think), but we gain 0.04, without the last level. So I suppose this should be like 15,20 secs slower in the shops, but that's a 2mins detour removed.

Czech Republic

Hah, I didn't even know you can apply vinyls on each other. Good find. Well, a guy can't find all the tricks by himself, can he? :)

Did some tuning testing on just one track and I'm afraid it's gonna take a shitload of time to test properly. There's also that thing when it's the right time to tune, since it takes some time and you're also limited by parts (ie. you can't get fully stiff/soft shocks with just stage 1 suspension).

France

I think that we should try to tune only with stage 1 parts, so that if it works good we'd just have to keep them for the whole run.

@Ewil, you can apply 4 layers of vinyls maximum, and the problem is that your unique vinyl uses the 4 layers, for the gain of only 1.

Czech Republic

The main benefit from tuning should be in stage 4 and stage 5 since these two takes most of the run, so we might do the tuning twice. Needs to be tested, especially suspension.

France

After a quick testing session, the only thing I can say is that launches will be hard to better with tuning.

I tested only with lv2 parts (stage 4), I found some useful things, but nothing that removes completely these shitty starts.

  • Drag mode : Minimum Aero, Rear height max, rear tire grip mininum (although I don't think it changes anything)

  • Street X : Max Aero, rear height max, steering ratio max Didn't test any other mode, but should be similar to street X I suppose

  • Usable for every mode (but I didn't notice a big difference) : Chip and Turbo with max power between 6k and 8k RPM. The rest is probably to tune depending on each other style, but for myself I don't even see a difference.

Czech Republic

Launches can be solved via hydraulics. I already mentioned that.

France

Yup I know, but as I said before I can't assign anything to my right stick, and I want the hydraulics to be there. I don't understand why it doesn't work that's annoying.

And I drove stage 5 today, and ther's one sure thing : I'll never buy the Golf. For me, the Corolla is totally fine for mountain drifts, it's not a too big deal to score big points with it. Another minute saved, at least.

Czech Republic

I used Golf only because Hard difficulty and no dyno tuning. It's a piece of cake on Easy with Corolla.

You can easily save 5 minutes compared to my run just by playing on Easy :) There's also a hidden drift in the mountains I didn't do, cause I couldn't do it reliably even with Golf.

France

I'm playing hard mode. Your run is in hard mode and is good, so I think that it's fair to also play on hard. Easy can be done later, without any other preparation we've done on hard.

Czech Republic

The question is can you do all these mountain drifts reliably? I couldn't, so Golf was the safety strat. Maybe it's easier with tuning or a gamepad :) There's also one thing you maybe don't realize yet - U2 speedrun is quite tiresome. There are absolutely NO pauses, so keeping 100% focus throughout the entire run is really hard.

Also, drifts can be sometimes very rng heavy. Sometimes the AI can have huge differencies in score each event, which may screw up the run.

France

I know it's tough, I've been quite tired just after playing stage 5 today. Just need to be prepared. I had no tuning, but with gamepad. If you play with keyboard, you should try pad, i find it way easier (maybe because I'm a console player). I screwed up the drifts because I was doing shit, but I think it's totally possible to get clean drifts without problems.

Czech Republic

I can't play racing games with a gamepad. I've tried it many times and I was nowhere near as fast as with a keyboard. Steering wheel would be best, but it's really slow for drifts and the built-in deadzone is very annoying. I'll give it another try though.

EDIT: What mountain glitch?

Czech Republic

That's pretty cool.

There's also ECU glitch that lets you have insane amount of horsepower, but it takes hours to get it.

France

It "may" be useful in the run, to get more agressive strats and don't wait to have unlocked everything.

Latvia

May I suggest changeing in Level Leaderboard Restricted/UnRestricted and Forward/Reverse with places.

Czech Republic

You can't set different categories for different levels :(

Rule update regarding to the newest Widescreen Fix release

The most recent release of ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix has been shown to have unfair advantages over an unmodified install. Therefore we decided to ban certain options in the .ini file to bypass the issues. Advantages range from different menuing speed, up to a 1.5 second faster transition from the
