The Alchemist of Speedruns.com

Im new to this site so im just going to complain, and I hope people can give me answers~

My goal was to post not just a record everyday but a WR. which was going well, (shout outs to the doax3 community with same day or next day verification).

but then I went to my strongest series; atelier; which I submitted too was 8x as long as my doax3 run and I waited 8 extra days and it still aint verified.

from what I have accumulated speedruns hasnt even run a single atelier game through AGDQ even though its 18 main games strong and has more games than final fantasy in its series , SHAME! from what I heard the series is to hard for americans so theres a lack of ppl to tackle it, thus my run may never be verified even tho I know its good.

at he end of the day, if the speedruns community doesn't have an alchemist, i'll be your alchemist. my general atelier series skills as an american are unrivaled and I even rival most japan players even though they usually get the games half a year + before us ( for example im already routing atelier firis, and atelier firis wont be released until at least march in the US) the atelier series is extremely hard to play in a foreign language.

P.S. atelier shallie plus gets released this Tuesday for US and im getting my copy 2morrow ;)

  1. There is a thread for asking to be mod of a series, it's in The Site (pay attention to the first post in the thread for rules on requesting mod).
  2. People have lives outside this site you know, sometimes they don't verify runs every day and with AGDQ just finishing people are traveling home. Maybe the mods are busy, don't expect people to cater to your "run a day" goal.
  3. The series mod for Atelier, PinkPajamas, just got home from AGDQ.
  4. Nice job acting like you're better than everyone by saying "I've heard it's too hard for most Americans" (and that whole final paragraph). Always good to slide a brag in when making a selfish post to complain a week wait for verification in the middle of the biggest speedrunning event. (/sarcasm)
  5. Twitter exists as do other forms of messaging, you can always reach out to mods of a game to ask them to update your run (or even mod you if they need help).
  6. Making threads "just to complain" especially when you're new to the site is a bad look. Especially considering you kept bumping your first thread to talk bad about a long time user even after they stopped responding.

TLDR: have patience and don't shout "SHAME" and create threads to complain when a mod has a life outside of this site and doesn't verify your run right away, that just makes you look selfish.

my original post was a bit nicer but somehow I hit the back button and that just pissed me off.

back on topic though as I still didnt learn nothin' I cant find how to PM people is there no way to do that on this site? and I really cant find just one definitive thread that says "if new read this first" that explains everything I need to know without chasing 100 different links; I just dont have the time for that.

If pink pajamas did go to agdq why would you not let him run an atelier game? It is a very big shame. atelier series is one of the longest running series in video games and has never once been featured, that is mind boggling, and unacceptable.

Perhaps I shouldn't indulge this thread, since we have a few odd troll posts roll through here, but despite your demeanor you do seem eager to learn, so here goes...

PMs are in "Coming Soon!" state, as they have been for a while. Nobody's going to get rich and famous building and running a highly-functioning site for a niche gaming community, so I hope you'll forgive them that and be grateful for everything we do have. I see you've donated - good for you! Encourage your friends to do likewise, and consider subsequent donations, so that the people behind the scenes can afford to spend more time on this site.

You state that you "just don't have the time" to read around and lurk, which is considered standard newbie behavior in any community, gaming or otherwise. Isn't it a little ironic, then, that you posted this to impose on somebody else's time? I know we go fast here, but you may want to hit pause and look in the mirror.

Finally, a clarification about how GamesDoneQuick is structured: they are their own organization, formed originally from the all-stars at SpeedDemosArchive and then SpeedRunsLive. Many big names from those communities are behind the scenes here and at other gaming and speedrunning tools - LiveSplit, FrankerFaceZ, etc. However, game selection ultimately goes through GamesDoneQuick. Speedrun.com has nothing to do with that process. If it's unacceptable to you that we have no Atelier, you can voice your concern by submitting when the SGDQ submission list goes live later this year.

that was actually helpful, and answered all my questions that I have, at least to the extent I can put the puzzles pieces together quickly and figure out whats going on around here, thank you. I know now what I must do.

honestly that post should just be a sticky

England

This shit is just basic common sense of entering a new community; lay low for a bit and just figure out how things WORK around here

no~ I know im more than capable of being one of the best speed runners on this site, I just needed to know the hoops I need to jump through to get things done fast, what I am aiming for, and how to get there. I wont disappoint either, I promise.

I am very happy here, wish I would of found this place sooner, because i dont have to buddy up and sell out to curropt moderation to submit speed runs. the moderation on this site from what I gathered does not have super human abilities as they cannont just reject a run just because they dont like you, I mean they can but this site actually has checks and balances to fix this.

drakodan, you dont have to worry about me here, this site is basically sonicandamy's dream TSC.

England

"sonicandamy's dream TSC."

that's an interestingly specific callout, I wonder wh-

no, I should of explained after the hijack of my introduction topic I just recently was told that he was from TSC and I understand the fears he has, thats what brought it up.

the people should know that while i've been a member of tsc now for over a decade, ive been a member of cyberscore for almost just as long with no issues. There is a very good reason for this. cyberscore supports legitimate competition just like here (yall do it quite a bit better though imo). thats simply all I ask. on TSC you can be banned for calling out false stats, and you are considered just as bad if not worse then a cheater for questioning a stats legitimacy.

I really dont want to spend to much time on this because it really doesnt matter you can join our stream and or discord if you have anymore questions on the matter.

I'll be submitting one more WR tonight and then we will take a break to spend time with shallie plus. look forward to it!

Belgium

One small addition I will do to this before this post gets locked: Sometimes even big games have very slow verification. It took me some whining when I had my first WR to get to where you are now.

But trust me when I say that no one will forget. If they are modded, they are committed, once that commitment falters they get unmodded, its simple. Just... in the verification process have a little more patience and you'll be fine. When something is really off (I had to wait for 3 weeks once) thats when you can complain, but you really should have some way to communicate with other runners anyway :)

You are motivated to be the best and have the attitude to go fast, keep it, work hard and submit to a GDQ if you want to run, I hope I'll see you there.

I am the Atelier speedrunning mod. I had 2 trips in a row one being AGDQ and then I had to fly out for an interview right after that, all with being sick during that. Now that I've come back and been able to settle, I've seen the runs and I've verified them. I still have to clean up the Shallie board from the person who modded it previously to allow difficulty settings. It's a bit rough considering there are runs that don't show the difficulty setting at the beginning nor are they said in the description of the video.

I was kind of confused about that. it doesnt specify what difficulty to use. I did one run that I didn't submit in ng+ where I actually changed the difficulty mid game from no hope to story watcher as it would ultimately be the fastest to do, but at the end of the day even if thats illegal a story watcher run shouldn't ever be that much faster (if it even is faster) because of the bonuses of No Hope difficulty.

if it matters any, I personally dont care if people are permitted to mess with the difficulty for ng+

now on a ng run yah difficulty really matters so I can see adding charts. (not sure if No Hope is possible on ng though)

also will ng+ and ng difficulty settings be added to atelier sophie? and maybe an atelier rorona plus ng+ run? its a pretty silly run but its more fun to watch then a bad ending speed run >_>

If you have questions or issues with a game or your run of a game, you're better off putting it in the game specific forums (or reach out via twitter, discord, etc).

You'll get a much better and faster response there than putting it here in the main forums (not everyone checks these main forums and they aren't ideal for addressing game questions or run issues).
