Note that this is for any%. It's not a comprehensive guide, but if anyone wants to pick this game up, this is most of what I've learned thus far. I still have a long way to go in routing though.

This is also for any%, with a bit less time used to get items. I used a fair amount of text from your pastebin by the way.

btw ive been editing the paste bin and just editing this post

Awesome to see someone make changes to the route.

a few comments:

-I did a test of how long it takes to save a Slime at Forewood, it was something like 2 min 55 sec to do with all the movement and cutscenes that get added for going there a third time. Generally the tank battle in Tootinschleiman's tomb only takes about 2min to 2min 30sec (RNG), and even if it was a slight time loss it's made up for by the Broadsword. That's what led me to determine it was faster. Feel free to time it though, it's been awhile since I did that and I can't 100% vouch for its accuracy.

-Far as language goes, I believe he does the same in Japanese so really it's an extremely slight advantage. Because of the way text scrolls, the game basically having the same number of text boxes, and the lack of glitches I believe the two versions are currently identical in terms of speed. The main reason I do it on English is for streaming purposes at this point.

-You've got a point regarding the extra Krakatroda chests right after the first Slime Knight, those shurikens aren't a big deal (player ammo isn't really a big deal) and that extra slime knight can be grabbed in Callmigh if you roll with a 3 slime knight setup. Not sure why I didnt think of it. I'll add that in.

-Hitting Bough Beater the way I do hits him about as often as his I-frames will let him be hit, so I don't think it matters how you do it.

-Definitely don't need to go out of my way for more chests, now that you mention it. I go out of the way for a few too many.

Also the notes are nicely revised for clarity and more clear advice. Also the barrier forks, thank you I should have added those way earlier.

I recently decided to start speed running, and I thought of this game to try, since I had loved to play it when i was younger.

So I decided to play through and kept getting lost trying to follow the route, so I may try to make a map of where all the different slimes on the route are located at for each map, to make it easier on myself and anyone else who may want to run in the future.

During my re-playthrough, I found something that could potentially be useful.

If you hit the the throw button immediately after you elasto-blast, you just kinda slide. So far, I've found you can slide though some enemies as if you were just walking, and also found out that if you do this into a wall, you don't bounce back, you just run into it. Also, you can't screen transition at all, you seem to hit a wall, and then before you can move you get pushed onto the next screen.

Not sure if it can be used for anything, but I might as well see if anything comes of it

Would love to see some more updates on this game, I'm excited to see what times and other things are potentially in the game.

Not sure if this is dead, but I'm SUPER interested in speedrunning this game, I've been looking for a speed game that I love to play and would love to speedrun and this is it! I'll probably be playing with an Emu as my physical is well... "injured" to say the least (R.I.P. Top Screen) I hope to run this game, maybe get some good times, and contribute to the route.

I'll be using WSplit to time some stuff so maybe I can add numeric data that is missing in some parts :)

I'm not going to be on Twitch because I'm 15 but sound like I'm 5. It's actually painful for me to listen to myself, but I might upload a silent video or two to YT

By all means, submit a run, whether it be from Youtube, Twitch, Hitbox, etc. Emulators are fine, not enough people have a DS capture to really get picky about that.

And if you find any tech feel free to bring it up here.

I've started working on a TAS of this game in my free time, I have about the first 5 minutes done if anyone wants to see

A few notes on tests I've done:

Elasto blasting is really fucking stupid. Holding the A button for 16 frames or less will result in a jump, holdint it for 17 frames or more will result in an elasto blast. Depending on the length of your charge, you'll go a set distance. BUT THAT"S NOT ALL! The most optimal charge time is 53 frames out of the total 57 (which is a full stretched blast). However, there is an optimal "range" for real time guys to try to aim for, which would be anywhere from 50 frames to 57 frames inclusively (This game runs at 60 fps). Here's a diagram, the important things are the yellow boxes are most optimal distance per frame traveled, and the numbers on the far left are the number of frames that A is held down. http://imgur.com/XO0tKQs

Another really stupid mechanic is text mashing. Fun fact, every time you press the B button during a text box, the game lags a bit. Now obviously this doesn't really matter since using B speeds up text way more then the 1 or 2 frames of lag lost but as you can see in the record run here the cart stops very slightly, which is due to the lag caused by the text boxes.

Other stuff: I have no idea how the skip at the beginning of the game works but I assume it has something to do with mashing buttons. I've tried everything I can to skip some of Swootsy(?)'s cutscene to no avail. The method currently used is deemed "TAS only" by me cause it's a 2 frame trick followed by a 1 frame trick. It saves ~3.5 seconds. I'm also skipping chests cause RNG can thankfully be manipulated in a TAS.

^ That feel when someone comes in and actually tests stuff that I myself have no idea how to do. Good find on the elasto blasting, that will come very much in handy for runs, thank you!

Out of curiosity, have you run any tests on any way to skip up to the top half of Forewood Forest? I tried but I dont know if there's some sort of clip or way to get enough vertical height to get over that. Being able to get a slime or two up there would skip the optional fight I do in RTA in Tootinschleiman's Tomb.

Ottawa, ON, Canada

Haven't tried clipping yet so I'll give that a shot cause that would be pretty great

also don't know if this was pointed out but the wr video seems to be broken

Ottawa, ON, Canada

all right tried for a little but got no where with clipping... guess there's no getting around the extra fight

Speaking of, I'll most likely stick to the RTA route unless I find something interesting, but if anyone has any cool ideas, feel free

Nice to see more people looking into this game, a sub 2:30:00 might be enough to convince me to get a recording system. Reposting my pastebin from above for visibility.

Just attempted to derust a bit, somehow got the tas strat for the instant hooly record thing. This was with only mashing, not really looking for any visuals. Did I just get lucky or is the strat easier than we think?

EDIT: Tried a few more times, only 1 more success. Unfortunately, once this route is optimized, this strat will likely be a reset if missed because of how early it is in the run.

It's, far as I know, frame perfect pressing Start after B.

I generally don't reset for it because it's 4-7 seconds in an RNG heavy run and I'd rather work on runs.

update, I'm struggling with continuing this game, I'm essentially no where further then I was 3 months ago. Plan is now that I have a cap card I'll do runs sometime in the new year to familiarize myself with the game then pick up from there where I left off.

California, USA

I did a run yesterday with some of the changes I've since learned about:

-a few fewer chests and Chimera wings (still need to be better about these) and more optimal movement -Hitting Harvest Loon twice per cycle if possible -Spacing out elasto blasts trying to be around 5/6 a second each -Other stuff I cant recall off the top of my head

Have more to do but this game can definitely be pushed down.

If I can catch your runs I can also help you out as well :)

So I performed the skip (without really trying that hard to in the first place) and this little visual error occurred. All I did was mash Start and B to get past the tutorial screen and then I repeatedly pressed A and B at the same time and I started jumping. Not sure if this can be taken anywhere, but I'll probably spend some time in the future messing around with it and seeing if it's anything more than visual. If anybody has any answers or ideas please let me know!

United States

That's pretty interesting but assuming that it is lost after an elastoblast makes it so it wouldn't be to useful. I'm not sure how long the cutscene is for the invasion but skipping that for a 30 second clear of the leaves would probably be useful. Would be interesting to test.

http://pastebin.com/qhHVW12B - I have revised the notes a bit for clarity and some changes to strats.

United States

https://pastebin.com/rni3nZVF - just a quick info dump on letters to be opened, tank battles, and gooshido to avoid scrolling during runs.

Might need to improve the current letters notes because I find myself consistently menuing sub-optimally.
