Games that are easy to learn but hard to master?

So, I'm a ¤¤¤¤¤¤bit¤¤¤¤¤¤ of a speedrun newbie. The only game that I can complete very well is Link to the Past with the Exploration Glitch, and my best time is 2:57. I'd like to find a game like this, one that's very easy to pick up but takes a lot of practice to cut down time. I'm pretty bad at platformers and longer runs. I can't even complete the original SMB due to 8-2, 4-2, and me being generally awful at video games. Also, please don't suggest games I like/have nostalgia for. I don't want to ruin Mario 64 for myself ;-;

European Union

you should check out SRW, where we attempt to learn a new game in a week, and then race it. so all games on there are relatively easy to pick up - 1 point down!

We raced 2 games so far: -Kirby's Dream Land (Leaderboard) -Mole Mania (Leaderboard)

Both these games are extremely easy to get into, having simple strats and are pretty short, but WR times are far from what we're getting in the races.^^

Other than that, I can recommend Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae, simple Hack'n'Slash Arena, but has a few things that are pretty tight to master. also easy to get into: -Dungeon Defenders -Xenoblade Chronicles -Xenoblade Chronicles X -Super Press Space To Win Action RPG -You Have To Burn The Rope -Pokkén Tournament (/DX) -Akane The Kunoichi -Hentai

I think Castlevania (NES) is a great example. Easy to learn, but then to get that low 11:3X you're looking at all the frame perfect stuff

Thanks! I'll make sure to check out all of these c:

Valhalla

Outlast Any% is one of those types as well

I'll second European_Union on Kirby's Dreamland. The game can be picked up and learned proficiently in an hour or two, then minor adjustments take forever (and let's not forget the lovely RNG grinding).

Far Cry 4 any% Two Worlds any%

hell I did a thread about this - https://www.speedrun.com/Speedrunning/thread/xgi2g/1#ozp2b

Valhalla

Morrowind is easy to speedrun. Just learn what you need to do to break the game, then do it at your own pace. A 3 minute run is out of the question though unless you work hard for it.

... How would we know which games qualify for this??

Astro Boy: Omega Factor is quite beginner-friendly, by the way.

I think Vision3ry means not to suggest the very idea of that, rather than titles which fit that criteria. (It is a bit on the cliche side)
