I am actively working to (hopefully soon enough) get LiveSplit working with the buildserver. Of course I'm writing my own WSplit handler first for development practice. Man I'm so close yet so far :(

idea for the practice rom, have the beginning of 8-1 and make a fast excel scenario since its the next possible trick that needs to be added idk how the mavv pole works so idk how you would go about making it also do it for fast excel in 8-4 and even wj for 1 frame,2 frame, and backwards

That would be nice, and as for the "mavpole" in 8-1 you just have to release right/ press D+R for exactly 2 frames on the ground, then jump somewhere and you get D50-D70 Especially for backward walljump, basically what you need to do in order to get a fast walljump (8-5 to 8-3, or 8-5 to 8-4)

i'm slightly confused. is pellsson the creator of WSplit?

United States

No but WSplit is a lot easier to parse than other splitters such as Livesplit. As most runners do, you can always convert your splits to Wsplit using https://splits.io/ or a similar resource.

Is it possible for you to make an input display built in the pellsson rom? I'd like that if it's possible to make it

Distribution of ROM files still under copyright is illegal, this is why patch files are used. So f.e. you won't find anyone posting an original smb ROM.

Maybe you are using a PAL rom. Try to patch it with an American or Japanese rom instead. Or the file is corrupt.

Ooh, nice! One thing I've noticed, though, is that restarting a level that you entered through a warp pipe (e.g. 4-1 through 1-2, 8-1 through 4-2) doesn't work properly. For instance, if you take the 1-2 warp zone to 4-1, then Up+Select to restart the level, it takes you back to 1-2 on the framerule you originally entered 1-2, but then the wrong warp zone is loaded. Also, if you happen to die at this point, it takes you back to 4-1 :D

Similarly, if you take 4-2 to 8-1, but then die in 8-1 and then Up+Select to restart, it correctly restarts you in 8-1, but on the framerule in which you entered 4-2. For some reason, if you play 8-1 perfectly from here, you will miss the framerule by 2 frames (even with good judges)...restarting the level again doesn't seem to make a difference.

New version is even more amazing. Thanks for putting it together, pellsson!

Is there a list somewhere of the various RAM addresses and what they refer to? For example, I'd love to change the "B" to the last three digits that sockfolder normally displays (for practicing BBG, I guess it's the angle Mario is moving?) but I have no idea what to change the value to.

United States

jlf, there are a few memory addresses listed at http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/NES/SuperMarioBros.html#MemoryAddresses , which contains most things of interest though it's obviously not an exhaustive list.

The Sockfolder value is calculated based on Mario's position ($006D, $0086, and $0400 for the x position, and $00CE for the y pixel), so I don't know if you'll be able to find it at any particular memory address. That said, the pause menu does let you choose between showing the "RULE" (framerule counter) and "SOCK" (Sockfolder display, which is what you're looking for).

United States

Thanks periwinkle, much appreciated. Still helpful to have those memory addresses from the link you posted. And I'll just switch it on the pause menu for BBG.

You can also use any previous version of the Pellsson rom as your original rom file
