And I think we all kinda agree on what to do. Read carefully and everyone is down for separating FPS and making categories. I can see that everyone would be okay with 60/120. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, the difference is only in how fast can you complete game. That's why I am okay with things right now, but I still think it's a shame that you cannot be "officialy" a holder of 60 FPS WR with FPS being only a filter.

@Zener yeah, not without the majority of the community complaining. Kappa

I just think now is not the time to break it up into different categories, if we do.

You'd have like 20 runs in one category and 5 or 6 in another, right now. I'm down for re-evaluating in a month or so.

@CursedToast It is likely that many people decide not to play at 60 fps because it will never be competitive and will not overcome the barrier of those who play at 120 fps will be faster than 60. In my opinion I will play " for fun "and I will get the best time I can since my components of my pc are not good enough. Thanks, and sorry for any inconvenience

Well we got a lot more complaining from 120 FPS players when we initially were going to separate things. And I don't know too many people that would prefer to run on 60 when they're capable of running on 120 if 120 is an option, tbh

Nobody gets a consistent 120 FPS, it's if you get it during the boss fights that it matters most. It doesn't take top of the line hardware to reach that framerate at the important key parts. Most people have to adjust settings down to be able to achieve that. Although I know some people that are just flat out refusing to do so, though, and just push 60 FPS so they can run the game looking pretty.

That's not a majority case from my observation, but it has been a thing >_>

I can push 120 fps just fine, but its the president that a game is not only more enjoyable when it's played as intended, but it honestly feels like cheating when you don't (Especially on hardcore, where ammo is actually tight)

That's when it just becomes strictly opinion. Many would argue the 120 FPS route is more enjoyable/fun.

I would argue even 60fps has a broken knife. Knife in general is just broken. There is really no 'played as intended' when it's programmed broken from the get go. The people claiming it takes 20 slashes to kill G1 on 120fps and 50-60 slashes on 60fps are pulling numbers out of thin air, really.

That said, having two WRs for two separate framerates is kinda... odd to begin with. Mostly because then every average would be treated as a "WR" by runners. I can't think of really any large game that does this. They either force a fixed cap globally and roll with that, or just allow whatever framerate people have the means of getting. The last game I remember that tried to do something akin to this was GTA V, and a lot of people got very pissed that Mods were trying to cap framerate to a double digit value because they couldn't achieve higher framerate. It's exactly as Toast said really.

Wait, we're doing this again, 9 pages of discussion weren't enough.

Things should stay this way for now, and by now I mean the next few months or years, at least we have a filter. Personally, I also believe that we should have a filter for variable in NG, at least hidden in the options. Makes no sense banning variable. I understand hiding it, but not banning.

And again, 120 fps is like meta today, but in 10 or 5 years 120 fps will probably looks like 60 fps today. I like to keep that in mind.

And for those who dont like the knife strats, maybe a knifeless% category could be added in the RE2RCE. Since Capcom made knife only a pointless joke imo, this should be the supreme challenge OpieOP.

Everyone at this point should just let their frame rate fly and cap it at 120. Its a battle of which runners PC can maintain 120 the best anyways. I doubt all of the 120s are 120s. They just get further up on the free for all framerateboard if they cap at 120 even if they barely go beyond 60. Very unofficial leaderboard at the moment. Should treat this like the UFC everyone has to make weight, Which would be 60 as its a number majority should be able to reach and it takes the cheese out.

It's day 2 of the leaderboards being open, I wish people would stop acting like it's just a "who has the best PC race only" thing already. It's not at that point yet. Nobody is playing that good. Just focus on getting better.

I sincerely want to know why FPS is okay to be a filter but platform is not. A quick glance at the boards currently does not show a difference between pc 60 and console

You've been given reasons though, Ty. If anything, the most I could agree with is maybe separation by input methods, but I mean, it's standard to just separate by platform. At least every single Resident Evil game is that way, and I've seen other game series like that but...

Maybe we should just do things like Breath of the Wild, or DOOM, or Call of Duty, or Hotline Miami, or Dark Souls (and countless others) and just group it all together. No separation of anything, just toss it all together and have filters. 🤔

People are gonna be mad no matter what, anyway, so let's just do it like every other game series.

Want WR? Get off your PS4 and buy a top tier variable capable rig, otherwise you won't have the best time. That's simple (wanna go as fast as you can, you're gonna have to pay up, you're not entitled to a WR within your hardware capabilities), unfair, and standard. 🤷

I haven't been given a reason though. There is not significant difference here. "Other games do it" is not a reason, as in some other games, there IS a significant difference between platforms. For every game that does separate platform, there is another that doesn't. And that doesn't answer the question of "if it's okay to make FPS a filter when it DOES affect the run, why is it not okay to make a filter for platform when it DOES NOT affect the run?" The only difference is input method which does not appear to give console a big disadvantage as currently plenty of console runs in this game are faster than pc runs. It looks fair to me, and plenty of games have different input methods that compete against each other.

Console has nearly ALWAYS been slower than PC and this game is no difference. Once more people come on pc it will be top, like it normally does with time which has always been the case with RE games with a serious speedrun following. There will be plently of pc runs that console beats yes but there will be a lot more pc runs that beat console. This discussion is over. The split and fps will remain. You guys can either keep playing and speedrunning this game or just do it of your own accord with your own rules but wont be able to submit it here.
