IGT, emulator standards

From the RR3 forums, @Redlof mentions that he had much faster times IGT vs RTA, and was found due to loading times of the Gens emulator being quicker than others, therefore giving a better time during a Real Time Attack. This seems to be the same for the RR2 runs for WR. I have looked at the videos and some users have had much faster times IGT versus RTA despite having a quick upgrade and fast start track selection.

For fairness I believe a standard should be set to make the game more competitive and accurate by banning the use of Gens32 and only having Kega Fusion, Bizhawk being used, as well as having the official timing for the Road Rash series to be In-Game Time.

Race Results:

(2:51.7) [2:51.6] {2:52.0} <2:51.8> (2:58.4) [2:58.2] {2:58.2} <2:57.8> (3:00.7) [3:00.2] {3:00.4} <3:00.2> (2:54.6) [2:54.9] {2:54.8} <2:54.9> (3:03.8 ) [3:03.4] {3:03.1} <3:03.4> (14:49.2) [14:48.3] {14:48.5} <14:48.1>

Looking for some feedback for this please

you seem to know a lot more about this than I. I've made you a moderator for this game. Feel free to make any fixes you see fit.

I do agree that igt would be superior. It should help us keep the emu and console rankings together and help with verification. sorry for the delayed response. I check this site almost everyday, but must have missed the notification of your first post.

I cannot talk to the point being made but I am learning this run on real hardware. I was wondering if the difference between emu and hardware is known at all?

@andou88 Wasn't expecting it, but thank you kindly for the mod! I agree that the IGT is easier for verification, as well as competitiveness. Me and 2 other users on Road Rash 3 have battled for WR several times already due to tenths of a second making a difference.

@chillmagic420 The only reason I don't run on hardware is no capture card, and doing a recording off my laptop camera is...well...Very crappy. I've tried it before and it just does not look good. One thing you'll notice on the difference between emu and Genesis hardware is that emu will run 60 FPS and the Genesis will run 30 (29.97) FPS.

However the issue in particular for switching to IGT, and the reason this was an issue with Road Rash 3 is screen load times. I tested it on hardware and took the times from my PB run, Sk1pbase's WR:

From crossing finish of the first race to the load of the second race: GEN Hardware: 9.44 (not frame perfect so this is guaranteed .50 - .80 seconds faster or more) Kega Fusion run: 8.48 Gens run: 8.2X (hundreths of a second time missing from Sk1pbase's run)

So because of these differences it makes sense to have IGT be standard of verification when multiple emulators and differences in load times is very apparent.

I went ahead and changed primary settings to In-Game Time and calculated every run's IGT and edited them accordingly.

@andou88 do you think that non Kega or Bizhawk runs should be removed, or do you just prefer to keep whatever emulators are available and stick with IGT? Currently Road Rash 3 allows only certain emulators, and I followed suit for Road Rash 1. Would it be better to make everything the same?

adding similar emulation restrictions from the other two games sounds good. thank-you for the work. The leaderboard looks much cleaner and competitive.

United States

I'll remove any runs that don't use the specific emulators and update the rules in the next few days.

waiting for the corrections on the rules

Russia

Everything was already corrected and my last run was on Regen. Gens emulators banned for all games on any leaderboards
