Potential future LBLJ-less PBs

Although my current pb for a sm64 16 star is 34 minutes, I’ve had several runs on a pace for 25 to 23 minutes. While I might not get a WR anytime soon, I’m hoping to eventually at least get a sub 20 minute run. Expect new runs to be posted relatively soon

Yep! If you’d like to improve movement I’d suggest playing or speedrunning romhacks. Helps more than you’d expect! Try joining the discord, you can get faster replies there! Also, romhacks work as I know that’s what Suigi and I did (heck Suigi and popular romhack runner SigotuSR are fighting over the B1 wr right now) I know it helped me because I went from a 22:58 to an 18:59 in two weeks after playing tons of hacks. Anyways, GL on sub 20!

Thanks a lot! Sadly I play on the switch vc so romhacks are pretty useless for me but I think with lots of practice I can still get a good time. I’m actually already much better than average at the game, I’ve just got a few trouble spots in the route itself.

Sad to hear but you'll get it in no time! Switch VC has tons of input lag so i'd recommend switching to N64/Emulator or even WiiVC asap.

I play the 3D all-stars and switch online editions and I’ve never had input lag

That’s because you’ve never had anything to compare to ;)

^ Input lag can very much be a subjective thing. Different versions of the same game will have varying amounts of "input lag", usually in comparison to how it feels and plays on original console... But its just that, compared to original release. If a player doesn't have a a wide array of experience with multiple versions and has put time into feeling and playing the game on any version, even the ones with comparable input lag, the one they are most comfortable with is going to feel the best, regardless of how much input lag there is in comparison.

Tons of gamers would suggest playing the original to minimize this, but it really just depends on what you like to play. Input lag doesn't necessarily equate to time loss. It might for someone who is used to original release... but , by itself , it does not equate to time loss. no need to switch based solely on this if you are comfortable.

Thanks. Also if you do have a severe enough amount of input lag that it makes a game harder to play then it might be your console or possible the cable connecting your console to whatever you use for a screen. I have had several problems with input lag merely because of having a bad cable or connection between controller and console. Especially with the switch. So if you’re having input lag problems with those versions you might just want to check that

I also use Switch VC and I have found an uncomfortable solution to input lag. I have two methods:

  1. Don’t connect Bluetooth audio - apparently wireless controllers use Bluetooth or something (idk) but it definitely seems to cause weird amounts of input lag.

  2. Don’t play on dock - this is pretty uncomfortable since if you’re recording you’re literally going to have to point a camera at the console on tabletop. However, this resolves basically every bit of input lag.

I have a janky setup that is really awkward but if you want an example check out my 1 star pb (it’s bad but no input lag)

Thanks but I already have a setup. Also make sure with the dock that nothing is in the way between the controller and dock. Or use wired controllers. But if there’s any interference between the two it can cause lots of lag

I also play on switch vc and have a 16:46. I agree with jtown. in my experience playing on the table top mode eliminates a lot of lag. GL On the runs Nintendogamer65

Thank you very much. Also congrats on that time it’s really good

I'm not sure about the Switch VC, but I know in some Switch games (such as Smash Ultimate, although maybe it was patched) using a cable actually causes more input lag than with using a bluetooth controller

United States

Well I’ve actually had a lot of input lag trouble with my recording setup where I connect my switch to my computer but when I’m just docking it to the tv it works perfectly fine. So if you’re using something like a capture card to connect the switch then that might be the cause of your problems

FYI: There’s a 16 star category for this on the category extensions pg
