Can I add a timer once the video is recorded, or do i have to do it during?

You don’t have to have a timer at all, so no, you don’t have to do it during.

Some leaderboards do require a timer. In those cases, I believe it's typically expected to be included during the run.

hahhah has the right of it - you really need to be checking the individual rules for each game you are wanting to run.

TYPICALLY speaking you don't require a timer at all and you can simply re-time your run manually afterwards (and a good Verifier should be re-timing your run when you submit it).

Additionally, so long as the game video/audio is clear, most leaderboards don't care if you are doing commentary / have a facecam / etc overlayed on top of the run so I don't see why a community would care if you added a timer in after-the-fact so long as your gameplay is not obscured by the timer.

But again, you need to check each game's rules to be sure.
