Like what type of capture device will i need and just general tips for speed running this game.

I can't help you with capture device, but as for general tips, find a certain high-level run or a tutorial for the character you want to play and study it as closely as you can. Try to understand what it is they're doing and replicate it. If you're planning on running Shovel Knight the character, Maestro's tutorial is a good place to start. You can also ask the community members anything about the game if you have any questions if you join the Discord.
Oh my bad. If you really can't do a capt card, trust me, there's always more options. They're aren't that many cheap cards tho.
Maybe you've heard bad things about it, but I use an Elgato HD60 for my runs (on Switch), it takes like 10 min to set up and works with OBS, ez peaz, plus being able to get that 60 fps is worth it imo, but if not, just point a camera at your TV, a lot more people have done it then you think
