Even though 70 is like "any% no major glitches" are we still allowed to blj to save time

That's stupid, rules for 70 star should be "Beat the game with 70 stars, timing begins on power on and ends on the big star when you defeat bowser in BitS" BLJ should be allowed, all you need to do is collect 70 stars and beat the game. Done

That's not the point of 70 star. The point of it is to be any% no major skips for this game, but the names are determined by the star counts because that is tradition.

70 star was effectively any% from 1996-2003 until the BLJ was discovered, so was 16, 1 and 0 star for many years respectively. So I think it's fair to play each category like they would have been when they were the any% category, and since the BLJ obviously wasn't discovered when 70 star was the any% category then it isn't allowed today.

Plus, what's the point of having 70 star with BLJ when the entire reason that any% is lower than 70 star is because the BLJ skips having to get 70 stars? Doesn't that defeat the point of getting 70 stars in the first place since you can just use BLJ to get less than that?

TL;DR It isn't allowed, and it shouldn't be in my opinion.

i totally agree, but one point doesn't make sense: the 120 cat was already there too, when blj wasn't a thing. so it isn't the same in those two scenarios: it was undiscovered then, it's (not) banned now.

i know: everything is allowed in 100% but it usually is in the any%, too...because this won't work w/out glitches and in the "new" any% it's also allowed, so why just keep ONE "old" category up WITH old rules? why not just adjust them to the new spots?

thats not my opinion, just what i'm thinking right now...actually you'd have to ban blj from 120 too, cause it's only NECESSARY for completing with <70 stars...otherwise it "only" saves time...what did the wr-holder had to think then, when his hard gotten wr just got smashed by the fucking blj skip(s)/improvements? i mean what the fuck...one discovers a gamebreaking trick and you lose your wr? isn't right in my mind...but the 70 star wr holder is safe on his throne?! mh...dont like that, but u make the rules we have to fit.

There is no discussion here, if you were allowed to BLJ in 70 star the category would cease to have a reason to exist. The only reason you'd bother collecting 70 stars for a "speedrun" is if you could not skip the doors with MIPS or BLJs. The category of 70 star is actually just "Any% (No Major Glitches)" and anyone arguing for the addition of the ability to BLJ is very ignorant. Of course BLJs are allowed in 120 star because it's "100%" and you need to collect all 120 stars anyways. For 70 star it is different, it is not a "100%" category so you don't have any obligation to collect any amount of anything, your goal is "Any%" and with the ability of BLJs and MIPs, you do not require 70 stars to beat the game, you require much less. Slap on a "(No Major Glitches)" and there you go, 70 star has it's reason to exist.

When people run 70 star they are running it as "Any%" assuming BLJs and MIPs clip are not possible, so allowing them in the levels is ridiculous. If you BLJ at all, you are defeating 70 star's purpose. (read more on that in my previous post) Why on earth would you be wasting your time BLJing in levels when you can BLJ through doors? 70 star is run with the assumption that MIPs clip and BLJs do not exist. How fast can you beat super mario 64 without the use of BLJs and MIPs clip, that is the category's challenge.

The good ol times back when no one knew about bljs, keeping that tradition, so it makes sense

It is also worth mentioning that for most rom hacks, the rules are that you can't skip the final star door.

I'd say if you want to do a 70 star run with glitches go for it. Free world record if no one else wants to do it.

@dav3yb, no they would not have a "free world record" because if they chose to use BLJs or MIPs, their run would be therefore invalid and rejected.

just because it doesn't exist on this site doesn't mean he can't have a world record in it.
