Can we add ILs?

I was looking around at this leaderboard and I noticed there is no ILs. Should we add an IL leaderboard for this game?

not for a game like this, it would make sense for like 8-4 in smb1 but not here

I mean here you can choose each level, smb1 you have to play all the way just to get a chance to run it

this is why emulators are aloud to be used or just modified cartriges with save states

True, but there are some people who prefer actually hard copies of the game to play

yea, but getting an emu for IL is not hard, but still i don't like smw IL, World runs would be better tho

They do the same thing in the NSMB series where they just use the world map to pick a level to speedrun

We can do what they do for NSMBW and make levels use in game timers and world ILs use real time

Short answer: No

More explanation: There used to be an IL leaderboard, but it was removed. Its removal sparked this thread: https://www.speedrun.com/smw/thread/7wpek

As authorblues states at the end of the thread: "Each level would need to have a board for: no/yes cape or flower, no/yes/blue yoshi, yes/no wings, secret/normal exit, and for each of these variables, it would need to have a board for both entering and exiting with each of these states (since keeping yoshi and ditching yoshi are very different in many stages, for instance). This makes a board where each level could need up to 50+ different boards just to make sure that the variables are all equal for anyone participating in that IL. Otherwise, the IL is meaningless (why would an IL for YI2 with cape be meaningful when that literally doesn't appear in a single category, for instance?)

This is why ILs are gone (and probably won't come back). SMW is just too complicated of a game. SM64 doesn't have powerups. SMB1 doesn't require powerups to go faster, since small mario is typically the best option. SMW just is too annoying for ILs."

It's very unlikely to be a popular idea as we've considered ILs on multiple occasions, and even had them in the past. There are several threads discussing the implications of ILs. If there are any new suggestions about why SMW should consider adding ILs not discussed in those threads, I'm sure we'll happily discuss it here

With regards to world runs, they kind of already exist. We have W1/2/3 Any% on the smwext boards -- and if you want a new category on the boards, all you need is a couple of people interested in running it, and be willing to submit it and it'll be considered!
