Moonjump All Dungeons Run (WIP)

United States

So I suggested this on the speedrun Discord, and was told to post in forums rather than suggest new category of "hacked" runs.

So as the title entails, this is an All Dungeons run of Ocarina of Time (N64) using only one hack -- Moonjump. It is a completely unique run over any other category and is as much of a speedrun as any% or any other category. So if enough people want to do hacked runs, it might become a new category here.

I am currently doing practice runs on my Twitch. Expecting to do my first run sometime next week maybe. (:

It's a very fun route to do. So many skips are possible and new strats.

NOTES ¤There are many specific angles of moonjumps done in this run that I found through a lot of trial and error. The timing to stop moonjumping in some of them can be precise, but figure it out yourselves as I have no good way of explaining when to stop moonjumping during a jump. It's largely based off visual cues from the minimap or timing it right.

THE ROUTE

KOKIRI FOREST + GREAT DEKU TREE ¤Sidehop moonjump to West to crawlspace ¤Backflip moonjump over crawlspace to hit loading point ¤Sword ¤Moonjump back over crawlspace ¤Get Rupees (40) + Buy shield ¤After leaving shop, sidehop moonjump left on top of wall + Enter Deku Tree unloaded ¤1 roll + Moonjump straight up to first platform + Sidehop moonjump left to door ¤Slingshot ¤Return to main room (do not savewarp) + Moonjump to upper platform ¤Drop down to basement ¤Get Deku Stick + Burn web ¤2-3-1 ¤Gohma (can moonjump attack to hit her on ceiling for quick drop -- is precise)

Jabu-Jabu ¤Get magic ¤¤Moonjump over owl trigger onto roof of fairy fountain ¤¤Backwalk off unloaded edge and moonjump attack into ff loading zone ¤Enter Kakariko Village ¤Play with chickens (yes, moonjump changes this) ¤¤Grab first Cucco and moonjump to roof with man on it ¤¤Toss first Cucco off towards spider house + Sidehop moonjump to windmill ¤¤Toss windmill Cucco off to ledge in front of windmill (pray for good RNG) ¤¤Grab potion shop Cucco and moonjump over fence onto ledge in front of windmill ¤¤Toss potion shop Cucco over fence towards pen (if windmill Cucco is halfway down stairs, good RNG. FAQ Q: Why moonjump? A: Why not? Is most useful hack of the bunch (sort of wrong warp hacks, but they would make a run pointless). I like to make unique and fun runs. (:

Q: Why moonjump across large distances? A: Is quickest form of movement (techncially). Depending on the amount of obstacles in the way from point A to point B, moonjumping over them can save time. And sidehop is 2nd quickest movement (2nd to backwalking). Fun fact: Quickest movement is actually a moonjump attack off a wall (but speed is lost over time).

Q: Why is releasing moonjump at certain times important? A: Loading zone/cs triggers do not extend forever, but they do extend in all directions quite a lot (most of them at least). The timings I use for releasing moonjump is assuming you held it from the start of the jump until the end, and is to get you into the loading zone/cs trigger/whatever as soon as possible.

Q: Why learn Zelda's Lullaby? A: Is needed to get past first room in Dodongo's Cavern (ZL is trigger for Saria to teach you her song which is needed for Goron Bracelet which is needed in room 1 in DC to blow up wall)

Q: Why unload Darunia's room instead of entering normally? A: It's more fun. I do "just for fun" runs, so I try to make them more enjoyable. Yes, you could save a little time by entering the "normal" way, but it's less fun. (:

Q: In Dodongo's Cavern, can you just moonjump into the mouth and skip blowing up the eyes? A: Nope. Although the door is loaded inside the closed mouth and intractable, it is raised off the ground and partway in the roof of the mouth, so unless you can enter it from the air, it's not usable with the mouth closed. But it is possible to moonjump into the closed mouth.

As many would tell you, if you want to do it, go for it. But this kind of runs may not be accepted because it is a hack. Normally runs take the vanilla version of the game and investigate on that version (a good example is randomizers, they are good for races, but not for leaderboards).

Is this run supposed to be glitchless or did you not come up with a route that uses many glitches? I'm going to try to think of a better route that takes advantage of the game more with things like DoT Skip and doing things out of order. This run is basically glitchless without many glitches but with moonjump.

Examples of things: Would it be possible to do Boat Skip with moonjump? We wouldn't skip hookshot as that would be slower when it came to Morpha. Skip hover boots, as you can moonjump anywhere you'd need them to get to. Can you do adult deku->shadow with moonjump as opposed to an action swap ground jump from a hover? If so you might want to do that if boat Skip with moonjump without entering the hover boots room isn't doable.

Anyway, I want to know if you've ever seen a normal all dungeons run also. I'd go watch the WR and base your route off of that route (note that getting eyeball frog as he does is N64 1.0 and 1.1 exclusive, and the fastest VC run is ZFG's)

Note that moonjump doesn't solve all your problems with hard glitches: you would still need to escape the forest and skip the door of time without it I believe. But you can replace Spirit hover, shadow early, water temple BK skip and hoverslide (for BK Skip, jump to the top of the door and jumpslash probably, if not the standard hover isn't too hard), the Megaflip in Jabu, and the hookshot jump in DC becomes a moonjump, just to name a few. Basically you can skip so much more than what you're skipping right now with more glitches and a better route. An example might be explosiveness Jabu, since you might be able to jumpslash the switch in the first room, hover over the gap (with Ruto maybe) to skip Octo, and hover over King Zora to get over that in the first place. That might reroute the beginning child section.

Also no, you do not need Zelda's lullaby. Skipping it is one of the defining characteristics of All Dungeons, and there's no reason why you shouldn't either.

Hope this helps. Good idea for a thing, but I'm personally not interested and I don't believe it will ever get a category here or on OoTMemes.

(Sorry for late reply,) but I think something like Moonjump% would be a great category. Then make sub-categories for (Any%, All Dungeons, And MST.) Wind Waker even has it on the main leaderboard. https://www.speedrun.com/tww#Any_w_Moonjump And several games have something like a cheat%. https://www.speedrun.com/pvz#Cheat I'd probably run a Moonjump% category.

Muted Audio on Twitch Highlights

Recently, many longer runs submitted as Twitch highlights have had parts of their audio muted due to Twitch's automatic copyright detection, the most frequent case being long sections of Lost Woods music. Some vods will even give a network error at these parts which can cause several minutes of foot
