Run Submissions

Just as a PSA to anyone who submits runs, here's a few things to keep in mind.

1.) Don't submit full runs with milliseconds. This game isn't competitive enough to warrant them. Only ILs need milliseconds.

2.) Check the emu box when submitting. The game runs through a client that requires an emulator.

Thank you

This looks like a good thread to ask this: For the Stage RTA (SC) catagory, y'all are looking for the fastest times to complete the entire level with Rosalina using Star Cancels, right? (Just making sure of things before I go about trying to submit videos for them.) Reason I ask is due to all the different conditions some stars need to have met before you can even attempt them, like the Snowman star on Cool Cool Mountain, or having to use the Cannon on Whomp's fortress to get Blast Away the Wall since she's too slow for the cannonless strategy that Mario uses.

Correct, Stage RTA (SC) aims to utilize star cancelling as much as possible. However, you're not restricted to just using Rosalina; you can use multiple characters throughout the attempt, but your variable will be "Multi" instead of "Rosalina" when submitting.

So, I submitted a single-star run for the Wallkicks Will Work star and I have two questions.

  1. Does it matter if it has milliseconds if I beat the last guy by 0.14?
  2. Does it matter if I time it in game time or real time?

ILs always require milliseconds, and I don't think this is an exception. A few ILs already on the site use IGT, though, so you're probably safe on that.

Also, I can't find out how to start the timer on the exact frame the game tells us to. I just use the game timer like everybody else, so I don't know why I got rejected for it. Looking back at it, the only reason I could find why that was rejected was because I started recording 0.1 seconds late. Can someone help me with this, because I'm really confused. :/

Save your savestate at star select and you won't have any problems. We mirror the vanilla SM64 timing rules by starting on the 2nd to last full white or black frame before gameplay.

It's to ensure that we can get a full accurate timing. Some timers don't use the full info, and some don't use the timer at all. Keeping it under the same rules help make it all reliable in terms of re-timing/re-evaluating runs. It's more a safety net, just in case. It also means we don't set absolute requirements for timers.

I did exactly that, Nacho, and it still got deleted. At least now I have more time to practice, because my best time improved it by 0.2 sec! Bad news, I didn't record. Onto recording, thanks Nacho!

Uploaded.
