Recommendation for Leaderboards

I think it would be really awesome if every game on this website had a Leaderboard that showed who has the most world records for that game. You could possibly even do a point system that awards 2nd and 3rd place as well. It might get more people to speedrun the categories that otherwise get mostly ignored. Please consider something like this! Leaderboards are so much fun!

Piano Tiles 2 does this in the forum, and it works fine.

I don’t see any need to implement this on a site-wide basis. Most communities either don’t have enough categories for it to be meaningful, or just wouldn’t care.

points/wr counts have been discussed so many times :(

tldr of like 100 threads trough who knows how many years: not a good thing. "promotes" just going for random easy wrs for points and/or creating new categories for free points

This was discussed a lot, and the consensus is that we don't want ranks or points for WRs count or similar metrics.

The main points are that categories and ILs can be very different from each other, and a WR in one category doesn't have the same value of a WR in another (for example, when they have different difficulties). Plus being ranked on a count of WRs will just encourage people to create junk categories just to get a "WR" on them and artificially boost their count.

Quality over quantity. Or this site would quickly start to resemble score hosting sites such as cyberscore.me.uk and video-games-records.com, where it's encouraged to spam as many achievements as possible to get high up on the site and game leaderboards. There it's of higher value to post 10 casual runs over a single highly skilled run, at least according to the game/site leaderboards.

I think if a moderator is adding a bunch of categories and then doing their own runs with that clear intent, they should be removed as a moderator, plain and simple. I think it would work for a lot of games and it should be left up to each moderator team on each game to decide if they add it or not.

Also, MISC categories should not go toward the count. I get that not all WR's are equal. But if you do this, it would make ALL of the categories more competitive, essentially making them more equal over time as times get better.

It seems to me that @SpartanGamer37 is referring specifically to wrs within a single game like what The Elite does for Goldeneye & Perfect Dark, which wouldn't be as likely to inspire category bloat as a cross-game points system.

As @Pear points out, it isn't something that would make sense for all leaderboards, but others have requested this for IL-focused games.

Yes I am talking about a site-wide feature that moderators for a single game can turn on or off based on if that game makes sense to have a leaderboard or not.
