Dune has an in-game time counter, which is displayed when saving/loading. It seems that the in-game time for the runs recorded in the website are mostly wrong. Kujgot didn't finish the game in 24 hours but 24 days in-game, which is the best in-game time in all recorded runs (but it doesn't appear that way on the site). Prospere didn't finish the game in 44 minutes in-game, but 44 minutes in real time, which is the best real time. Should we correct all the times for the Dune speedruns?
Also, Dune has a time-skipping feature, which can allow you to same real time at the cost of in-game time. So, you would run the game diffrently if you want to optimize real time or in-game time.
Hey, I personally prefer the "real time" category.
We should categorize the "in-game time" category, because it's also a challenge to complete the game with less in-game time.
I agree completely, we should make categories. Apparently we've been named moderators for Dune (I suspect it's because we're the only speedrunners on it :D ) so I don't know if we are supposed to do that ourselves. ??
Created some categories. I also added some rules. You can check if everything is okay with you :)
For clarification: in-game time is measured by saving outside the Harkonnen palace just before the end of the game. Do NOT substract the starting time. That's for consistency reasons. I retimed Kujgot and Slowham runs (amazing times btw).
Thanks Lady Prismillon! I'm sorry for the confusion with my run. But wouldn't my time be 624 hours? Outside the Harkonnen palace I was at 26 days 00:00. So by not subtracting the starting time, assuming the game starts at 0 days 00:00, I think the math is 26 days x 24 hours = 624 hours total.
I think my run is faster than Kujgot's. Doing the same math, he was outside the Harkonnen palace at 26 days 07:30, or 26 days x 24 hours + 7:30, or 631 hours 30:00.
Again, my fault for the confusion. I'll fix my YouTube titles and descriptions. But let me know if you disagree with my math.
By the way, I'm happy to be a part of this little community! I've been enjoying your and Prospere's videos.
My question on my run may be moot, as I've set a better time today. But I'm still curious for your thoughts on my math to make sure I get my next submission right.
Oh, my! You're totally right! I got confused by the 12am hour (I never know if it's noon or midnight). I'm so sorry, I decided not to substract the starting time for simplicity reasons, and now it's me who make calculation mistakes. I feel a bit stupid.
Well, sorry for the delay, but you're now officially world champion of Dune speedrunning, category segmented in-game time! :)
