The Adibou 2 speedrun doesn’t make sense

Adibou 2 is a game for kids on PC from the 90’s. But more importantly, it’s an educational game, so it doesn’t have a beginning or end. It’s just a bunch of minigames and activities kids can play.

Its first speedrun was done 4 years ago, kind of like a joke, so with no specific rules in mind. The problem is that the runs on sp.com are considered 100 %, but it’s not a real 100 %, I don’t even know what it could mean to do a 100 % run with this kind of games. For example, in the game there are short cartoons and music videos, should we watch them to pretend we did a 100 % run? There is also a mini game that has not been included in the run for no specific reason.

But the runs on sp.com have other problems. In a minigame where you have to plant seeds in the ground, the player has to plant 5 columns of vegetables. The first column can contain 3 seeds and the others can have 6 seeds. Here again, for no specific reason, all the runners plant only 5 seeds in the columns containing 6 spots, meaning the minigame is not complete.

We also have a problem with the kitchen minigame. When you enter the kitchen for the first time, you have a 20 seconds monologue, wasting a lot of time for the runner. So one runner got the idea of going in the kitchen to activate this monologue before starting its run. This way, he sets up the run before starting it. Considering that the run for the game is just « complete six minigames in the order you want », it’s not breaking any rule, but is it a legit move nontheless? Of course, by saving 20 secondes, he got the WR and now his strategy is reproduced by everybody running the game. There are currently three runs (on a total of 12) using this technique, should we remove them (even though the previous WR starting this has been accepted almost 2 years ago)?

The problem with this run is that it’s totally arbitrary and since the rules were not clear from the beginning, we now have (most/all) runs that don’t really make sense.

So what should we do? I guess deleting all the runs is not an option. We could create a new « true 100% », fixing the problems we have now but it doesn’t change the fact that this existing category has no consistency.

I would appreciate your opinion on this matter, especially if you know similar situations that happened in the past.

I can’t believe they would ruin the sanctity of the Adibou 2 speedrunning community.

Usually the reply to this is "ask the game moderators, because we in the general community don't know anything about this game". However, I see that you are a moderator of Adibou 2 yourself.

So, can you please provide some more context? Have you just recently become a moderator for this game? Are you looking for advice on how to reorganize/fix the leaderboard? And if you did just became a moderator, what about the other 3 moderators that came before you?

Find every runner you can contact Consult them to make a consistent, well defined and enforceable ruleset for one or more new category Chuck all the old runs in a legacy category Upload new example run to said category / categories Really should take care of most of the issues without upsetting too many people.

As for the pre run setup thing either allow it or make a vote for it, it's not really insanely important, some games (specifically some categories) have allowed pre run setups and some haven't.

@Oreo321 The context is that 4 years ago some guy wanted to speedrun Adibou because it was funny to speedrun a game we played as kids 20 years ago. Other people did it too, but none of the runs are optimized, they just did it for fun, not really to seriously try to have the best time possible. In September 2019, one runner introduced the prerun set-up, the run was accepted by one mod that apparently didn't think much about this strat. And once you accept one run with this strat, you can't really reject the new runs submitted doing th same thing. One mod (first runner) didn't login for the past 3 years, another one for the last 5 months and the other mod doesn't really care about those questions and doesn't review the runs. And about me, I submitted a run in May but seeing that there were no mod left for this game (I knew people submitted runs many months ago and were stil waiting) I asked to be mod.

@TransparentBlue The legacy category seems a good idea. Contacting runners will probably take a bit of time, not sure if they care about this but let's try it. Thanks for the suggestion.
