In the hopes that this forum is still active, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm TerranRich, and I recently decided to take up speedrunning Space Quest IV. After watching far better gamers than myself speedrun my favorite games, I noticed a lack of some of the classics, such as the Space Quest series.

After looking up speedruns of Space Quest IV (my absolute childhood favorite), I decided that it was something I could have fun doing, having played the game for years. I practiced using the [former?] world record (the 9:10, which seems to be gone), and even developed some time-saves of my own.

For example, the INSert key is extremely useful, as it swaps between Walk and the current action, saving seconds here and there. I'm still shaky on the overall run itself, but I recently managed to get a 10:16. I submitted that run and hope it will be approved. :)

I also created a reference chart for the copy protection, as I couldn't find the cracked version that was used in the former WR run. It's far easier to look up codes than the original grid chart. I can share a link if anybody wants my chart.

Anyway, hope to see more people speedrunning these classic games. Once I beat the 9:10 time, I'm coming for the other Space Quest games as well... ;)

Awesome. Looking forward to watching your run. I've tried running it a few times but had too many issues with the roller rink skip. That and trying to work out which version to run (I think I'm up to 5 different versions). Also feel free to head on over to the Speedy Adventures discord if you're not already there. https://discord.gg/Udg2gJngFZ

Thanks for the invite!

There's a way to skip the Skate-O-Rama part when escaping the Sequel Police. When exiting the arcade, simply go back into the left side of the arcade.

You'll see a big bad SP guy there, but if you're fast enough (I'm talking, have the icon ready when the room graphic loads up) you can interact with the Ms. Astro Chicken game, die 3 times, and the SP guy will be gone. You'll be free to take the time pod.

If you exit the arcade and re-enter though, he'll be back.

I have the MS-DOS 1.1 version by the way. I believe it's the fastest version because the DOS speech text is quicker to skip than actual lines of dialog.
