So far the only thing I can think of that should be clarified is the audio and video quality.

I agree with the melee rulings because the things you listed as not allowed are not melee in any form.

Florida, USA

I just mean a minimum set for what the quality should be before submitting. Like 480/720 for the video. Whatever it needs to be to be clear enough. Basically nothing under 480, is what I would recommend.

Sweden

I'd clarify what the dedicated discord would be used for and maybe not used for. This way people know how it will be used, whether to join and how it will work with these forums. For example discord can be more for proposing ideas and brainstorming and then the final word can be posted here (your 1.0 as it were) so these forums can be clear of clutter.

Nothing else comes to mind though, you've mentioned the points I've brought up speedrunning these games but I feel with the significance of the changes and the long term impact with the aim of not repeating this again, there should be a period giving people time to let the changes sink in and have time to find issues with the changes and/or propose more suggestions.

This all sounds awesome to me and the rules seem easily understandable fam!! I agree with Vox, need a bit more specifics on the audio and visual quality options (def needs to be higher than mobile quality to be able to see things clearly). For the melee category I agree throwables that do not come from melee items like sticks or breakable items should not be included. Wrenches are a bit of an interesting issue since that is character specific and doesn't really come from a breakable item, but I am fine with the majority ruling on that one. I assume for Thanatos you are talking about the electrical switch for collecting Blood right? I got confused for a second there. I like the clarification for character only as well because I actually hadn't seen the extensions in detail yet so that was cool. It is my hope that once all is said and done this is an awesome step in the right direction for the community!! <3

Updates to the rules listed.

Offline rules 1/ Recording should start upon selecting the map (i.e include the character choice, difficulty and AI/lone wolf). My runs should include the results screen too though since the tracker was added it's just personal preference but you get the point, obvious but not stated.

2/ Sticks aren't allowed (exception being sticks only category), again, obvious but needs stating.

Online rules 3/ With regards to adding mods - rephrase to mods that affect the gameplay (which would give an advantage i.e. infinity ammo). Don't have to add the brackets but make it a bit clearer why the rule is there.

4/ Recording needs to show the players names taking part. Normally I've done this at the start from the "game starting soon screen" and probably included the results screen. This ties in with nightmare which I'm not sure if it pops up on the results screen so let's say record from the "game starting soon" and must show it's nightmare by showing the rules as well at the start. This is done by pressing the select or start button I think and choosing rules. Anyone can do this not just the lobby creator. Not sure 'everyone' needs to show this but it wouldn't hurt.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Ms Stick characters don't exist in File1 but that's more a nit pick. Can't choose them, cant cheat with them.

Venezuela

Hey dude, i have a copy of the game for my ps2, the online servers still working? the wiki says that they´re shut down...

Sweden

http://obsrv.org/index.php

There might be the info you seek.

Venezuela

@VSilverwings ty, btw, i´ve been playing all this game just today for the first time, and saw a run a few minutes ago, and noticed that time loads are longer on tne console, why not to separate console from emu, just a question.

Sweden

I'm not aware of a discrepancy between EMU and PS2 but online is based on RTA whereas offline is based on ingame. This might explain for the discrepancy.

Venezuela

Huh, kinda weird,so it doesn´t matter the time loads betwen cutscenes and doors?

Sweden

There is a way to emulate a game that's installed on your hard drive (as opposed to emulating a DVD). This cuts down loading times but in offline times are based on in game time and the in game time stops during cutscenes and loading screens.

Venezuela

Thanks, i have opl, but not the hdd, i´m not interesting in run online by now

Venezuela

@UNICOY men, that´s the best post i´d ever seen. i might be a newbie on this game, and today is the first time i played it, instead, i think you´re right in most of things.

Venezuela

@UNICOY Seguro!, tengo que preparar el outbreak para jugar en linea, además de que debo rodar el televisor al lado del router, pero haré lo que pueda estos días, la universidad me tiene algo ajetreada.

Hi there.

I want to make a few points now. I know Hurriboy you want to improve the leaderboard, and I like that you took the lead to kick inactive moderators and fix problems, but here are my points:

  1. Banning stick figures is not needed, cus no one will pick them, maybe Ms. White at one stage but she has so little health that one hit leaves her in danger, making the run much more harder (and enjoyable). Does "Let's ban Mr. Red cus he has too much damage" sounds good? No one will pick him, nethier Mr. Black nor Mr. Green, etc.

  2. Nightmare is the same as the difficulty you choose, I will explain myself. Very Hard has the same RNG as NM Very Hard. Just check it by yourself.

I will write my other points later cus I have to leave now.

Greeting, Epica.

Sweden

As Hurriboy is currently the only mod I feel it's best that input be focused on what is necessary to reboot the community so things can get going again. Whether a category exist or not is irrelevant, it affects no one except the people who choose to do it. Don't like it then don't do it as Hurriboy has pointed out. I get how nightmare is the same as VH, however, one can argue any hit is bad even on easy because time loss is the enemy not the health loss. Easy means you can take the hit and not rip but it's a rip run if you're 2s slow because of a zombie grab.

Allowable characters, yes that's something to address now but if I mod has taken the suggestion on board and isn't prepared to do anything about it now AND when people openly admit that allowing banned characters under file1 for example wouldn't be a problem as people wouldn't want to pick those characters....then why the fuss to remove a ban which people aren't affected by? Hurriboy can choose to do a poll when he's got things in order if people really insist on making changes but please let's keep the priority on a working community then we can make changes when more mods are on board to help.

Hi there again.

Hurriboy, tell me one run that you need to be grabbed or hit to save time, if you tell me just one I will give you the reason. NM is just a ez record to get, that is why we run that leaderboard.

I don't see the point in BANNING something that is legitimately obtained inside the game, why you care so much about leaving that rule? Is pointless.

This leaderboard doesn't have lot of runners, the community of sr of this leaderboard is rather small, you are waiting to get at least 50 people (that I suppose, must know about the game) must give a "vote"?

I am not that type of "if most people want..." cus that for me it's just an excuse for not doing something, people mayority don't change reality, I prefer that someone gives me proof or arguments againts my arguments and proof. If your proof is "cus 2 or 4 people won't change..." we won't be getting anywhere.

United Kingdom

For a few of the rules, just figured I'd leave my comments. I barely run this game at all, so not going to go super-indepth with stuff.

  1. The stick figure character ban I never did fully understand, and I'm not entirely sure who implemented the ban to begin with. I can't remember if this ban existed back when we used the time attack wiki or not, but I don't think this rule has ever been discussed at all? It just sort of existed I think. Maybe have a variable or something to display what character a person used, so grossly overpowered stick figures can be separated from standard characters? This may be better to discuss?

  2. The PS2 rule could probably stand to be a bit less direct. 480p minimum as a strict rule, for example, could still lead into verification issues if that person recorded with a terrible bitrate. Usually I would just have this rule be "if we can't properly see your run then we can't verify it", but that's fairly common sense and wouldn't need to be a rule either, really. Seeing/Hearing a run is verifying it, and if you're unable to do both or one or the other... then a run cannot be truly verified, in my opinion. User's should be recording with this in mind.

  3. The music swap thing I feel indifferent on, mainly just because in my view a game should be unmodified, in any way, for speedruns. Sort of feels like it falls more into people messing with the game for what I'd guess are silly reasons.

On the subject of overall rule changes though, if stuff is gonna be changed drastically, it's probably best a decent effort is made to collectively get most of the older runners opinions. Rules realistically shouldn't be changed because of a small discussion, as then stuff would be changed so frequently you'd never find yourself with a definitive set of rules.

Hi everyone, thank you Hurriboy for inviting me to be a moderator and I hope the community itself will be happy with me being a moderator too.

I've looked over the rules currently posted under Outbreak; View Rules and have revised them based off of what I've seen discussed that were applicable to the rules. The document Hurriboy linked is universal, it's not meant for any one category and is being tweaked here and there but essentially it's in a sufficiently revised state to put it back to the community without having to look over a growing thread. The only thing I've not addressed is PS2 record quality which I felt should be put to people in the forums specifically and especially PS2 users.

If anything is still unclear I'll do my best to address it and am open to any more changes the community brings up.
