Japanese text is about 40 seconds faster than Spanish.

Just thought I'd bring this to attention in light of the recent news of our first Japanese runner on the leaderboard. We kinda figured that Japanese would be a faster language, as it is in every game, but given the fact that NA has no access to Japanese as a language, what do you guys think should be the protocol?

Should we suck it up and JP systems? Nobody of course want to drop 350 dollars on a system just to do Splatoon runs, so I think this one is fair but unfeasible.

Should we simply ignore it and let JP runs be faster? (i.e. use sub titles like NA wr and JP wr)? This would get confusing, and might dishearten Japanese runners because people will think they got good times only because of their system, which is not true.

Should we do extensive tests and deduct a certain amount of time for text? We don't have access to TAS systems and would rely on video recording and human timing. This means the timing for (deduct X seconds) would be inaccurate and unfair to one side.

Should we mandate a universal language? I don't think JP systems have English language, so this would also be unfair. If they do it might be a good option but I have no idea.

What do you guys think? 40 seconds is a lot of time for this game, and there doesn't seem to be a clear solution to make things equal.

In other news, that Japanese run by BEAT was really cool. We actually learned some new strats that we never knew about before, such as Inkzooka glitch on W2 Octolings. You can catch the run here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3fmlqWdCG2DMXhyS1J1dkFNMUE/view . It's cool how the different regions developed similar stuff but also new things we've never seen before. I await more colaboration with the Japanese runners.

I think it would be fair to deduct a certain amount of time, or see if there is anyway to gather weather or not they have a language we do as well (I imagine spanish would be one they have just by the popularity of the language)

North Carolina, USA

i think it is fair to add a certain amount because like you said they do not have an option to play on english but i think there would need to be alot of retiming for the little bits where you just mash A to get through text so the time to be deducted is as acurrate as possible instead of just using a rough estimate because that could make there times innacurate. I do know a better solution though and that is for NINTENDO TO KILL THE REGION LOCKS. WHY DO THEY EXIST NINTENDO

Michigan, USA

do they have acces to spanish? cuz that would fix it all really, i mean we run in spanish and we dont speak it...most of us dont even know it

North Carolina, USA

i don't know if they have access to spanish but in north america english is faster so if spanish has the same text then it would be slower then english which they can not choose
