If you refuse to believe that why did you ramble across two different posts?

In any case GDQ prohibiting runners from partaking in drug use only adds legitimacy to my argument, I feel fully that we should pay more attention to this issue in the way any professional organization would.

I'm guessing you're not a person that uses drugs or you would know they don't just make you react faster, but there are plenty of drugs that people use to improve focus tremendously in ways that sober people could not reasonably be expected to achieve, such as maintaining 100% focus over periods longer than six hours.

@Drakodan

"You could substitute 'performance enhancing drug' for anything that achieves a placebo effect of the runners performing better, such as being in a specific frame of mind, or having a lucky charm if they're of a particularly superstitious mindset. These are all things that are impossible to quantify, yet WILL make a difference on a runner-by-runner basis, as mindset and confidence are incredibly important components to performing well as a speedrunner. Since these things also give a tangible edge to specific people, you would have to lump these things in and ban them also."

I doubt that those types of effects would ever need to be considered within the realm of PED's. That would be like banning high-fives at the free-throw line, banning teams from helping up their own players after a fall, banning headphones in the locker room, banning Michael Jordan from sticking out his tongue (which is a sign that he is "in the zone"), etc.

I'm commenting specifically on the statement that I quoted.

Now that I think about it, maybe you meant what you said within the context of your view of PED's. In general, I would say the statement is false, but I may have misunderstood your explanation.

"You could substitute 'performance enhancing drug' for anything that achieves a placebo effect of the runners performing better, [within my example]" might make sense, if I'm missing something.

"in those [real-life sports] cases the drugs really do give you an advantage which is universal; you'll simply run faster/jump higher/whatever else"

The effects are far from universal. It takes a good team to make an athlete perform better. For example, certain drugs and methods work better or worse than others for different people's body chemistry. It takes a good doctor to know what will work most efficiently, if at all significantly. It takes a good doctor to administer PED's or methods in the correct way. It takes a good doctor to know how much a body can take and to know when more harm than good is possibly being caused. And after all is said and done, it takes a good team of trainers to take advantage of the possible gains.

Acceptance of a premise or of your sincerity is not a prerequisite of making a response to it.

doctorwoot, I think you've convinced everyone you're gonna convince (which appears to be no one). There doesn't seem to be much point to reiterating yourself every time someone says they don't like your idea. Just a bit of friendly advice, you remain free to do anything you like, but I might think about dropping the stick and walking away from the horse carcass here.

Honestly, I do think people have done drugs to gain an advantage in their runs in the past. I'm not sure where to go about exposing them, doctorwoot, do you have any suggestions?

Reminder that caffeine is a stimulant and everyone that drinks a SODA during speedruns should be BANNED.

@TwoWorldsCoexisting, You know I quit soda last year, and I've noticed a decline in my speedrunning skills... Glad to have come clean, but I think I may need to remove my older runs.

Guilty as charged, I personally dip my game carts in yayo before each run -_-

@Cyberdemon531 Hey i'm happy to hear you're making a positive change in your life! I personally am getting over to a crippling addiction to soda, it's a tough road to recovery but after hearing your story I feel motivated to succeed.

I'm just saying Drakodan your accusation was specifically of trying to get a rise out o people. It seems a little counterproductive.

Anyway, I don't understand the stubbornness in this community. Everyone so far has basically just spouted some completely baseless presumption, admitted it as such, and then stuck to their plan of doing nothing. This is why so many leaderboards are corrupt, why so much drama results from moderator bias. Why if I didn't know any better I'd think the people saying no must be hiding some kind of drug use.

I will be emailing Mike Uyama in the coming months. With any luck we will rid this community of its drug obsession.

But..but...Mike has...

Actually, yeah, you go do that.

Apparently I was unjustified in accusing you of trying to get a rise out of people.

Apparently.

Alright then "doctorwoot", if that is your real name, let me tell you something.

You don't even speedrun. Stop looking for a problem that doesn't exist. Stop trying to create a problem that doesn't exist. Stop responding to the trolls who only seek to get a rise, and acknowledge the points of those who've actually been a part of the community.

If you do not comply with the above, you will be branded an (singular) idiot, if you haven't already.

Have a nice day.

I don't appreciate your attempt at character assassination and must also inform you in front of everyone that you're incorrect. I run Hotline Miami 2, which has its own in game leaderboards, and F-Zero X, which I record on VHS tapes Until these problems with doping are rectified on speedrun.com (which, judging by the number of drug addicts in this thread, won't be for a long time) my tapes will not be posted to this website.

Can anyone even play VHS tapes anymore?

Might wanna send those over to Twin Galaxies or something. I don't think they have any drug addicts over there.

OK now you're just trolling. You might have had the tiniest kernel of a point 8 months ago, but this is just silliness for the sake of silliness.

I mean VHS players don't magically stop working just because they're outdated technology. My mom still has one (plus a really big VHS movie collection)
