What’s the most obscure game you run?

Since someone else mentioned games they don't have recorded runs for, I guess I'll mention I used to run a game called Fairune- just never recorded it. They had global leaderboards on the switch version for best times, and that motivated me to push myself (originally I got top 20 from a list of hundreds, though I've been overtaken many times now). I couldn't figure out exactly how the very top player got their time.

It seems that now, on src, the world record holder has a similar time. Maybe I should look into their run to figure out exactly what I was missing.

@Oreo321 Good question! Honestly I just wanted people to tell about games that wouldn’t be otherwise mentioned. Like, There’s a speedrun for Minecraft on Pi?? And an entire series of scratch games called Ninja Joe???

@ProceduralDad I don’t see a lot of MS-DOS games on here, interesting!

@Winter_Doggo I’ve heard of fairune! Very vaguely, I wasn’t even aware there was a leaderboard for it
Honestly I just wanted people to tell about games that wouldn’t be otherwise mentioned.
I think browsing user profiles is probably a faster way to go about that—a person who plays one little-discussed game is more likely to play other such games. For example, if you wanted to find more pico-8 games on the site, check the profiles of people who've played the ones you know about. Sooner or later you'll come across a player like jellyd0ts, who's run a couple dozen.

That's how I found The Lair, a fun beat'em up game with a knight vs monsters. https://www.speedrun.com/the_lair

You can also go to the games list and sort by fewest runs or fewest players, but a problem with that is that it apparently doesn't count IL runs or players, so games such as Bloons Tower Defense 6 show up as having 0 runs or players, which is pretty silly: https://www.speedrun.com/btd6

I guess I can give a real answer. http://www.speedrun.com/escapeplan And it's a shame because that game is so much more than meets the eye. There's constant tiny little advantages you have to exploit over and over and over and over to get a decent time.

Scrolling down the games I've run:

Full Game Runs: The Esotericism of Bargo: Ocarina of Typewriter (Flash game point & click parody of ocarina of time) Tetris (WSC) (A pretty weird and obscure version of Tetris) Gunpoint (This is actually a really good game AND fun to speedrun, highly recommend) Dr. Mario: Vitamin Toss (Random flash game) Pokémon Picross (I mean, it is Picross.) SMB and Legend of Mega Koopa (A mediocre mario 1 mod) Super Smash Land (Game Boy style Smash Bros Fan-game) PaRappa the Rapper 2 (Yes, there is a sequel to that one rhythm game, and yes, it is way better than the original)

I also used to run a flash game series called Riddle School (which is actually pretty cool), but since I used streamable instead of youtube back then, they weren't permanant links and most of them have been removed, sadly

ILs: Mario: Mini Moto (Top-down racing flash game) Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel (Really neat GBC mgs game)

My "obscure" runs are mostly obscure because they leverage quite unique concepts

https://www.speedrun.com/marblemarcher Marble Marcher is a marble game that is played on 3D Fractals that are generated in real-time using Ray-Marching (works similar to ray-tracing). Most levels are static but there also are moving levels where the fractal is changing while playing. It's open source and there also is a community edition that added extra features like a level editor and has better performance and graphics.

https://www.speedrun.com/tsiiyh Boktai is a series of vampire hunter + stealth games for the GameBoy Advance that has a Light Sensor built into the cartridge. Gameplay interacts with the strength of the Sun and time of day and date. While nowadays it's often played using emulators there are runners that play using UV-Lights or even have a portable streaming setup to be able to play outside with real sun.

@Gameboy9917 already listed what I would mention, Gunpoint and the Riddle School series. The figure on my profile picture actually comes from an achievement in Gunpoint.

I've been thinking about speedrunning Pocket Card Jockey one day, but it's a 3DS game, might be difficult to optimize, relies on RNG, and would have strange categories. It's a really fun game, though, and it's not on the site yet.

I run DOS-games, which seem to be quite obscure games to run in general on this site as they all have pretty low numbers of runners.

https://www.speedrun.com/zeliard - 1 runner total (me 4Head ) https://www.speedrun.com/moonstone_a_hard_days_knight - 3 runners total https://www.speedrun.com/warlords2 - 6 runners total

Malaysia

I'm the only active runner of this MLP GBA game for about a year now. There are currently 3 runners who have run this game in the leaderboard (The leaderboard shows 4 runners because it still had a record from my old account [I forgot the password of that account, so I had to make a new one] and I forgot to tell Flutter, the supermod for the game to remove it). I made a guide for the game, explaining tips and tricks when running the game, and I plan to write more guide for all five chapters. The current WR for the game is 24:19 by me.
