Hey guys. I have opened registration for an SMB1 Warpless tournament to start about a month from now. All skill levels are welcome to join. I have a few restreamers and commentators interested already, but I may be looking for a few more. The information about the tournament including the discord server and so forth are on the challonge site. Hope some of you will join and if you have questions, let me know.
Probably not joining as I am very bad at this game but what are the platforms for this tournament, because most people don't have a NES
Will the tournament be restreamed on the SpeedGaming series of twitch channels? If not, I could get it to be by talking to some of the admins of those channels.
Thinking about joining even though I've never ran warpless lul
I can't, I have school, and I won't be home for the first week of Jan. because my parents are going on vacation.
We still need to finish the one from 3 years ago :D
I won't be able to participate. Well, there's a slim chance.
Yeah, just need to get TSK to come back and finish the tourney haha.
Fwiw I think xeroxfiend was planning on getting together an any% tournament at some point soon as well. Would be fun to have some events for smb1 :)
Hold on, how exactly does this tournament stuff work? What exactly happens? Is it just like, lets meet up and have a fun competition and see who does the best?
I feel the bracket link in the post should have the information you need but I'll break it down real quick.
There are two brackets, a winner's bracket and a loser's bracket.
When the tournament starts, you will have a matchup against someone that you'll see on the bracket. You have a week to schedule with your opponent and do the race. Races must be streamed.
If you win your race you will move on to the next opponent in the winner's bracket. If you lose you will move to the loser's bracket and play someone who lost their winner's bracket match as well. If you lose a matchup in the loser's bracket, you are eliminated from the tournament.
Each round in the tournament is given a one week window for everyone to work out a time with their opponent to do their race.
Some races will be restreamed on a restream channel. What that means is viewers will be able to watch on a single twitch channel and see the race side by side with selected people doing commentary.
If you wanna see an example of what that's like you can look at the current SMW tournament stuff. https://www.twitch.tv/supermarioworld
I'm pretty slow at warpless, so I'm not taking part, but very happy about this tournament and will try to watch it.
Today's the day - not running it, but EXCITED to watch :) GL to all who are competing
