Suggestion: how to improve the speedrunning community

Hey guys,

As a person who does not speedrun, factorio is the game that I would choose for it. My biggest barrier right now (and I believe for many others) is seeing the Guides section with an (empty) next to it.

Having a guide for how to run this game, like which build go for (even if its an outdated build or noob friendly) would be a great way to start. After following that base the speedrunner would learn the run and improve it himself. I know that there is also the option of watching one of you guys and try to copy the build, but its not the same thing.

Other things like sharing which tools you use to track your time on stream (and others) would be quite helpfull as well.

Cheers

I'm also thinking about trying to speedrun factorio in the near future, personally I'm going for the boneheaded approach and I'm designing some software to create and optimize a new build strategy, as that's an aspect I find interesting. Perhaps I will manage to finish that work in the next few weeks :)

After watching a few (maybe, many) recent AnitElitz streams, I can probably recreate his current build pattern from memory.. And that's certainly a good way to get started. Maybe screencap the stream at various points and use that as reference. Or try building them out in creative, so you understand all the placement, and capture that. This isn't exactly a big time investment, compared to each run being ~4 hours, probably far more at first. I don't think his strategy is perfect but has a lot of neat qualities. Once you start playing around with it, you'll probably have some ideas on how to do it better.

As far as the tracking tools, I'm pretty sure Anti + most others are using LiveSplit

You're always free to contact me and ask for help. Best way to contact me is on my Discord, which is - as of now - more or less the Factorio Speedrunning Community Discord. https://discord.gg/EakEWTf - @sgstair You should just have asked me for a save. Would have made stuff easier :D .

You (and everyone else) could also upload some saves to the "Resources" section and save you the hustle giving them everyone separately.

I uploaded my save from my any% default options 3:51:54 run. It is in the resources section. I will continue to upload saves as I run.
