Best way to practice is to utilize the ALTTP practice rom by pinkus on a SD2SNES (if you would like to play on console)

Okay now I need to buy an SD2SNES because I would prefer playing on console at all times. Thank you, I was wondering what product to buy to do this.

Hey, I am just getting into speedrunning ALttP, and speedrunning in general, I was wondering if you had any basic tips on how to get a good time, and how to get my hands on a SNES and a Japanese cartridge, thanks.

The answer to your first question is practice. Getting a top time in this game takes a ton of work, there’s a lot of optimizations that can be made. Asking questions when stuck can be good, but generally speaking I’d go after a tutorial or watch some runs and start learning on your own first. After a few runs you’ll know what you really need help with.

The answer to your second question is The Internet. Amazon, EBay, etc, they’re all places you can get a SNES and JP ALTTP. Just make sure to a JP 1.0 cart (ask to see the back of it and look for a punch code with no letters). And made sure to remove the plastic tabs from your SNES’s cartridge slot so the JP cart fits.

Thanks I’ll look into tutorials and I’ll keep an eye on Amazon for the cartridge and console.

The discord for this game will also be a great resource for you so I’d recommend joining it if you haven’t already (questions can be answered faster there than here, especially once you start learning)

Why we must show fps in the runs just asking for curiosity??

It gives extra information to verify a run on emulator that we might have doubts about. Required only for top 20% runs.

So is there a "list" on potential softlocks and how to avoid them in RBO? I somehow managed to de-spawn the Ice Palace Crystal and was somewhat baffled to how that went about and I would like to not have that happen again. :D

Hey so I was just looking through the site like I do when I'm bored which happens often, and I noticed that WQ's WR isn't on the leaderboards, which is a problem because Xelna no longer has WR, and WQ isn't 2nd place. If his super outdated 2nd place run is on the site, as well as all of his other runs on the site, why isn't his WR? There is absolutely no reason at all whatsoever for someone's legitimate time to not be on the leaderboards, and most new people who dont know this coming to the site will think that Xelna's pb is still WR, which it is not. Please fix this.

If I remember correctly, WQ didn’t want his run listed on the site. This site’s policy is to not include runs if the runner doesn’t want them on the boards. Granted that may not be the case and I may be remembering something from a while ago, so someone can correct me if needed.

Why do people fire arrows and use magic at the wall at the end of every boss battle? And why did this guy I'm watching jump off the edge of Moldorm?

Jono, are you watching a low% run? In those runs, it is required to finish the game with 3 hearts, and the heart containers from bosses must be deleted. In order to delete the heart pieces, there needs to be a specific amount of other things on screen so that the game thinks the heart container was picked up and the pendant/crystal will then drop. In the case of Moldorm, there is no known set-up that will drop the pendant after the heart container has been skipped, and so the room must be re-entered, which is done by falling off of the platform and walking back into the arena.

@SkyangelPR: you just have to learn to mash well, and know that you can also cancel the last text box in each conversation with L+R as well. It's a skill that comes with time.

@Quinxte: Not much. JP vs US text differences in that category are all minimal and all in the opening link's house cutscene. probably 5 seconds at most.
